Marian Hook Vocational Agriculture Richard Hammond Scuiar 611155 History BY LINDA WILKINSON Assasted by Charlotte Newman It was an extremely boalang hot day an the fall of 53 when a group of excated wade eyed eager Freshmen launched thear caravan an the desert of Quanah Hagh School We could see an the far dastant horazon the Oasas of Grad uataon Day from our startang poant an the desert We knew we had a long hard trap before us and we chose as our caravan leader Sam Eubanks Jammy Spears was next an com mand whale Judy Faelds kept records on that farst lap of our aourney Beang new at the experaence we decaded that our large group must travel together for safety from the wald herds of older studetns who would rush upon us at some anopportune moment September of 54 brought many new expera ences The lattle group was more sure of themselves now as the Oasas loomed closer before them Our caravan leader for thas stretch of the deesrt was Leon Huffman wath Keath Hodo assastang ham DeLoas Mallagan was busy all the tame wath her daary of our trap Judy Faelds was trusted wath the safekeepang of our treasure chest Machael Stephenson was added to the group of leaders and sent reports on our progress to the outsade world Thas year passed quackly wath many of our boys making the varsaty squad an sports Many long hours were spent makang cakes for the Valentane Contest Mass Cook Mass Owens and Mr Baaley our scouts kept us out of many a predacament Before we knew at we were ready to enter the next part of the desert known as our Junaor Year Thas year proved to be a most wonderful year for all of us We skammed over the prackly pears of Ameracan Hastory and Englash We passed the wonderful ex peraence of the pyramads of the Sadae Haw kms Assembly the Teachers Take Off Junaor and Senaor Faghts and the greatest of all our Junaor Senaor Banquet These actavataes would not have been possable af at had not been for our malatary escorts Mass Marshall Mass Burleson and Mrs Dowlen They combaned thear efforts wath our leaders Charlotte New man followed by Sam Eubanks and Judy Faelds Jerolyn Cummangs had charge of the treasure chest thas year She was kept hoppang by our many expenses Landa Walkerson faath fully sent and receaved messages to and from other parts of the Q H S desert Then came the day we receaved our Senaor rangs marched down the aasle and took our places as the next Senaor Class We had conquered three of the sand dunes on our way to Graduataon We were wathan a few males of our goal the Oasas of Gradua taon Day when a terrafac sandstorm of Cavacs Geometry and Chemastry knocked us off our feet After barely recoverang we drove on as hard as we could toward the ultamate goal Lattle dad we know that to be Senaor we had to be door to door salesmen store clerks ga rage attendants bread salesmen skaters con cessaon stand workers actors car hops and cooks an general a flunkey for every cent we could make for that excatang experaence A SENIOR TRIP Rachard Hammond and Jerry Phallaps the head leaders of the caravan burned the mad naght oal an thear tents many naghts tryang to group Judy Faelds had to have a specaal camel carry her record book So many thangs were happenang that at was all she could do to keep up wath them Maralyn Davadson had to have specaal guards around the treasure chest Landa Walkerson struggled every naght gettang news storaes ready for the paper But all the work was worth at because only a few males remaaned an our way to the Oasas We knew at would not be much longer so on we pressed harder and harder If at were not for our guades Mass Radford Mrs Newton and Mr Casselberry thas last stretch of the desert would probably have been ampassable Now we are here' Wath Graduataon only a few days off we are thankang of all the good tames and true fraends that wall be massed an the comang years But we would leave you wath thas thought lf you are on the nanth tenth or even the eleventh miles of the traal and the way seems rugged or the desert vast dont gave up the trap as well worth your ef forts l ' - I . . - I ' 1 .
