Club '42-'43-'44-'45g Choral Club '46-'47, anishes all that early morn- I HISTORY OF THE SENIOR CLASS I was looking over some old annuals the other day when I saw some familiar faces of the Freshmen in the one of 1943 and '44. They seemed to take me back to that year when we were Freshmeng when John Flynn, T. W. McKoy, and Barbara Wells were the leaders of the class. When we thought we knew everything, but we didn't know what was ahead. I remember the good times we had along with all the trouble we got into. Then I remembered what hap- pened in January! It happened again in May. That was exams! But somehow we got by them all right and after it was all over, they didn't seem so bad after all. As my thoughts went on to the next year when we were Sophomores, I looked in the annual of 1944- '45. On the first page of the Sophomore section were the pictures of the President Roger McMenamy, Vice- President L. O. Whitfield, and Secretary Kameal Tay- lor, who were the officers for that year. By that time we were learninglthe ways of High School and were wanting to go on ahead. Soon we found ourselves nearly out of Algebra and World History, but first - I there were the exams! Then the summer vacation. Soon we would be Juniors. As I turned to the Junior pages of the Annual of 1945-'46, I thought of Roger McMenamy, Billy Bump- ass, and Wayne Johnson, who led the class for that year. We worked hard that year on Geometry, as well as on raising money for the banquet The ban- quet was a success, and was enjoyed by all. Again it was time for exams and the summer vacation. We realized then it wouldn't be long until we would be Seniors, our last year in high school. With this in mind I thought of last September when we entered school as Seniors. I remembered the foot- ball games that we attendedg the day we got our Senior rings, and mid-term exams! With Miss Burle- son and Miss Wey as our sponsors, Wayne Johnson as President, Billy Bumpass as Vice-President and How- ardene Bridendall as secretary, we had very good leadership for our Senior year. It has been a happy year with the Senior play and the banquet given by the Junior class. The main thought with everyone now is GRADUATION!!! To the Sophomores, we leave the feeling that Q. H. S. is the best. To the Fish, we leave hard times ahead, but a guar- antee of a wonderful end. This is our last will and testament to which we have hereunto set our hand at Quanah, Texas, on this the 00th day of April, 1947, inithe presence of Super- intendent W. E. Hancock and Principal W. H. Ho- worth, who have signed the same as subscribing witness at our request and rather persistent insist- ence. CLASS PROPHECY TIME: 1957. ' PLACE: The thriving metropolis of Quanah, Texas, on the main thorofare on the way to Quisenberry Inn . the successor to the Waldorf-Astoria. JOHN QUISENBERRY, the manager and owner, is awaiting the arrival of the very important guests, President of the United States ROY KELLEY, the great economist, ?jniiLlEis private secretary, HOWARDENE BRIDEN- SETTING: 'The Presidents private, atomized car which had been perfected by NOLAN TIDWELL, the worldls most outstanding scientist and experimental- ist.'The chauffeur of this new discovery is BILLY MAC BUCKHOLT. They arrive at the hotel and are helped out of the car. Manager Quisenberry steps out to' greet them when a man in slight financial troubles steps up and says to Roy, Could you let an old classmate have a dime for coffee? The speaker is none other than Charles Bryant, The Prezident gives him the dime as he marks up ten cents, expenses in his account book. . After the two guests have registered, a bell hop comes up to carry their bags. Howardene exclaims loudly, Why, Murrell Wall, what on earth are you doing here, and as a bell hop. I thought you were run- ning for governor. Murrell: I was, but Leroy Estell defeated me through the campaign platform- set up by his cam- paign manager, Thelma Johnston, who is a world known politician. They step into the elevator to go, not to the pent house, but to the basement to the President's two rooms. They notice that the elevator operator is Kay McLean, another classmate of '47. As Roy and Howardene leave to goto BOBBY night club HUFFMAN'S Idle Hour the famous whose slogan is Walk In and Crawl Out , which is in and Grill competition with Ruthie Carroll's Bar , they notice they are being followed by a traffic cop. When they are stopped, the cop is none other than Billy Nowell,' a classmate of old days. He's generous so he lets them pass on unmolested. As they pull up in front of the night club, they are greeted by the doorman, Charles Norman, who is also President of the World Wide Liars' Club. Before they can enter. they have to wait for the janitor, Billy Bumpass, to clean off the walk so the honored guests will not soil their shoes, then President Kelley and Miss Bridendall go in for a night of fun. As they enter the joint , President Kelley leaves his hat with the hat check girl, Joyce Griffin. They step into the dining room where three waiters nearly knock them down trying to get to President Kelley and his secretary to wait on them. Later they realize the waiters are Billy Bailey, Warren Murphy, and James Pickle. The three are all in competition for the job of head waiter, which has been open since they began work in 1950. Roy and Howardene are shown to a choice table and then they notice a large chorus of girls. Four of the chorus girls they recognize as ex-classmates, they are: Betty Blake, Annie Nash, Frances Ritchie, and Jo Ellen Maxwell. Roy speaks: 'Those are awfully attractive costumes on those girls, aren't they, Miss Bridendall? ' Howardene: Yes, the costumes were designed by Wanda Lou Cates, an old classmate of ours. Wayne Johnson is the famous makeup artist who has the privilege of making up all those girls' legs. The other makeup was done by Nova Hamby. The president and secretary are served a lovely meal of toast and butter prepared by cook Bobby Cummings and suggested by the famous dietician Mona Monroe, and are given a bottle of wine made at Cecil Becknell's distillery. Bartender Joe Duncan mixes a lusicious drink while he watches the chorus girls closely. Just before the program begins there is a bright flash from a camera as Charles Wheeler, the famous photographer, Essie Harmon, the, society editor: and Darlean Devoll, the reporter of the Tribune-Chief, takes pictures and get details from John Ball, the bouncer, as to why he is throwing Mayor Billy Burch and world known diplomat E. J. Johnson out of the club. Now as the program begins Trent Collins, the Mas- ter of Ceremonies, comes out to the President's table and talks to them. Trent speaks: Well I'm glad you are here tonight. It seems that this is the night for celebraties. The pro- gram will begin soon but first I will tell you about a few of the important people here tonight. The young lady in the red hat is Miss Barbara Wells, her auto- biography, 'fAlways Barbara , has sold more copies than Forever Amber . Miss Jo Ann Stine and Mr. Jimmie Moore are also with her. They starred in the show What Happened On Dooms Day . Box office receipts show it to be about ten times more popular than Howard Hughes' The Outlaw which was so popular in 1945, 46 and 47. Billy Leonard, the Well known naval officer, and Delois Hannah. the noted explorer, are also here. They made an expedition into some new land and called it No Man's Land, but when they returned their records were destroyed and they have not been able to return. Delria Cain, the world famous model and member of Eugene Sellers Model Bureau, and Francis Wykes, Quanah's greatest dentist, are also here. We have a guest band leader. He is L. O. Whitfield and he will play here all this week. l On our program we have several added attractions. Rex Watkins is one. He has taken over theljob as a reformer and is carrying on the work of Big Three. He will make a speech on The Evil Influence of Al- cohol on the Human Race. - First on the program however is a song by Margie Fincher. She is an opera singer. Then we have an exhibition by Almarie Wall, the world known snake charmer. She charms the snakes by merely walking around them and I tell you that's enough. Scientist Earl Vestal has made many investigations to find out what she does when she is walking that will charm the snakes. After much research he saw Miss Wall walking down the street and exclaimed That walk would charm anything. Howardene speaks: My, it seems as if all the kids in our Senior Class have made something of themselves, I wonder where the rest of the class is. Trent speaks: Where is Garland Chesshir? Howardene: I heard that Garland, Trice Epps and Geron Holder are still trying to get through college. They hope to finish in five more years. F Roy: Well, look over there, isn't that Jean Ketcher- sid selling cigarettes? Trent: f'Yes, that is she. The customers buy more cigarettes from her than all the other girls put to- gether. It must be her lovely figure. ' Roy: Come to think of it, I believe I'll buy another pack. I don't want to run out, you know. ' Trent: t'Well, the show is almost over. We have only three more numbers. Jean Robinson is going to sing with Patsy Respess accompanying for oneg Jean is a famous Blues singer. Rupert Terry, the famous comedian, is going to put on an act and then H. A. White is going to throw his joints out of place for the closing act. Roy: Say it's almost ten o'clock, we had better go. As they go out the front door a taxi pulls up in CContinued on Next Page? CLASS PROPHECY CCOntinuedD front of the club so they take the taxi to the hotel. The cab driver is J oyzelle Whited. She has the radio on and this is what they hear: Radio: Ladies and gentlemen, we now give you our news commentator, Miss Leta Preston. Flash: Kenneth Zirkle, owner of the Certain-teed Products Corporation, sold his interest today ,to a larger company of the same type. Flash: Wesley Woodson Clawson has just had a second set of quintuplets. This makes ten children for her. Flash: Joan Conley, famous poetress, after spend- ing most of her life in partial blindness, has discov- ered a new kind of glass, enabling her to see well again. This type of glasses will go on the market soon. Flash: Mary Catherine Morgan has just defeated the World Champion Wrestler of the Ladies' Divi- sion. Flash: Gertrude Brazil has just divorced her hus- band. This makes four hearts Gertrude has broken. Flash: Ferris Loveless, operator of Loveless' Lone- ly Hearts Club, has just gotten married again. Flash: Robbie Brandon has just bought a chain of Filling Stations. She stated that she had always want- ed to operate one and so this was her chance. Flash: Roger McMenamy has died in the local hos- pital. Roger has been hunting for Kilroy for ten years. It seems or is believed he discovered who Kilroy was and that the surprise frightened him into a coma. Kil- roy left a note saying what happened. Roger died be- fore he could tell who Kilroy was. That's all for now, folks. Tune in again tomorrow for the latest news. Roy: Just think, ten years ago we didn't know what we would do later on. I just hope that everyone is as lucky as our class wasf' Howardene: 'tYes, I guess our class was one of the best and one of the luckiest of all the classes in the whole world. Q. H. S.
