T0p Picture left to Ilghf Se ond Picture left to nght Third Picture left to nght Fourth Picture left to rlght S e y JV Kerr-ey CLASS HISTORY The year was l946 when we boarded our strato cruiser and began our high school career, a class Of one hundred eighty-four, Many of us were strangers but it didn't take us long to get acquainted with one another and with life as it is in high school. We mode our first landing for the Freshmen Get Acauainted Party, which the sophomore class held for us, Our next stopover was the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, where we visited Fels Planetarium and heard an informative lecture and a demonstration on nuclear fission. On Memorial Day Betty Trautman and James Myers received the American Legion Award for their lead- ership, character, and outstanding scholastic abilities. ln June our stratocruiser landed for refueling and repairing of parts. Even before we boarded the ship for our second trip, some of the fellows in the class were conditioning themselves at football camp. This preliminary train- ing program was initiated by the Booster Club. With our stratocruiser in Afl condition, we took off for the annual Freshmen-Sophomore Get Acauainted Party. During this year our class organized and elected the guiding crew for the rest of our flight: Miss Anna Neamand, class adviserg James Smith, presidentg Betty Trautman vice president Catherine Hausman secretary and Wilma Hartmann treasurer The most colorful protect of the year was the Band Uniform Fund which Home Room 39 started There was much enthusiasm in the student body about this un ertaking FFA to was in the high spirits aoout a project of its own its farm show display won a place at the Pennsylvania State Fair ln September our class adviser and officers climbed into the cockpit to pilot us through the iunior year We looked down and observed that the entire area in the rear of the high school building had been macadamized backboards had been erected and courts had been lined Soon we hit a rough air pocket when we lost the football campaign by thirteen dollars Appearing o the horizon for the first time this year was the Future Homemakers of America which sent Esther Bartz and Doris Wagner to a State Home cconomics Convention at York Pennsylvania On the athletic field a time clock provided for by one of the previous graduating classes and erected by the vocational boys stood out as a marked improvement This years hockey squad considered Coach Affler mach s best ended the season as co champions with Doylestown To fill our four houses for their play Life of the Party the members of the class worked hard The cast under Mrs James Ebberts direction did a solendid iob making the super sales talks come true A big event for the vo ational agriculture boys was the l-FA trip to Kansas City Willard Docktor Robert Leight Henry Thomer and Norman Tyson accompanied by Mr Joseph Freeh went by auto and gained not only agricultural information but also a deeper appre tation of our country Another trip this Year was the Girls and Boys Glee Club tour to Souderton and Ambler The National Honor So iety worked hard ard pur chased a cotton bunting s hool flag for use at foot ball games Featuring the Recall theme our iunior prom proved to be a great success A covered wagon and cleverly constructed block houses provided authentic atmos phere for the forty niners Katherine Weber class of 49 was crowned pram queen and Lyda Rodgers Juanita Shutters Mary Fischer Catherine Hausman Lorraine Wisler and Mary Jane Kidney were her six junior attendarts ln the senior year we were flying high and rightly so for we war the most sought after campaign me one which gave us the football concession r I 1 ' I , V d . . . ., o , 1 I r . n . . . . , . , , . 4 i , I , r . . CLASS HISTORY The band made a strukurg appearance as they per formed un theur new unuforms We had worked hard for two years for these unuforms and were uustly proud Record breakung sales un the magazune campaugn en abled us to come one step closer to the realuzatuon of our goal the Washungton trup Much credut goes to our two effu rent managers Betty Trautman and Teresa Swuerzewska Our next undertakung the senuor play tucket cam paugn was a real challenge due to the ruse un pruce However the loyal sons and daughters of the class dud a commendable uob by fullung three houses The play The Bug Help under the capable durectuon of Mrs James Ebbert was a huge success Mary Ellen Koder and Zugruda Zeltuns Student Coun cul offucers were among the group who attended the three day State Student Councul Conventuon at Coates v lle Lorraune Gerhart and Velma Staneback accompanued by Muss Martun went to the Pennsylvanua Scholastuc Press Assocuatuon Conventuon at Wulluamsport Pa The novelty quartet uncludung three senuors Wundy Meyers Ruchard Musselman and James Smuth brought honors to the vocal groups by sungung over statuon WIBG on the Suburban School Roundup program Louuse Strawn took the affurmatuve sude un a duscus suon of Love Hugh School Style on another Sur burban School Roundup presentatuon One of the outstandung socual events of the year whuch we sponsored was the Chrustmas Prom We got a prelumunary glumpse of what the Washung ton Trup mught be luke when the Problems of Democ racy class s attended a court sessuon un Doyletsown and vusuted the Bucks County ,laul the County Home and the Mercer Museum On the memorable day of March 22 rauny as ut was we took off on our long awauted trup to Washungton D C Our Romeos and Juluets found the long tourney to Annapolus a pleasant one At the Naval Academy we had to practucally wade across the campus but that dudn t dampen the spuruts of the gurls for they were more umpressed by the mud shupmen than the scenery We were pruvuleged to wutness the umpressuve change of guard amud the solemn atmosphere at the Tomb of the Unknown Solduer ln spute of the chull wund and the raun the braver ones of our class stayed outdoors to watch the manecu vers of the huge planes at Natuonal Aurport Thursday nught The welcome sun on Fruday mornung gave us a deeper apprecuatuon of the beautues of Mt Vernon where we posed for our class photograph and had an oppor tunuty to snap many puctures Many of us wull remember the Supreme Court Buuld ung un Washungton for uts outstandung archute tural beacuty Our more energetuc classmates clumbed the 898 steps of the Monument but we all enuoyed the panoramuc vuew from the top af thus memorual When we vus ted Lun oln Memarual we were deeply to.:ched by thus gleamung whute marble trubute to our martyred Presudent The hughlught of our vusut to the Caputol was seeung the Senate and the Haus of Representatuves un ses suon where we caught a glumpse of our Vuce Presudent After four too short days un whuch we vusuted mam other places of unterest we took our last fleetung glances of Washungton A tured but happy group we arruved un Quakertown an Saturday nught The maun stops before our hugh school flught us com pleted are the Junuor Prom Baccalaureate and Com mencement We look forward to a happy Iandung' , , .r. x' I I .
