Many after school hours were spent planning and exec- uting the many component parts of the book. For teaching with imagination and humor, for making classes a bit more bearable, for caring about persons before numbers, and most importantly for giving generously of himself, we dedicate the 1973 Quaker Quotes to you, Andrew Shulick. They are lclackwise starting in the upper leftl Service, Curriculum, Activity, and Grievance. Each board has a specific iob. Service Board provides for the needs of the school: They decorate the tree at Christmas time and help during Open House. Curriculum Board pertains to matters of school policy. The Activity Board set up and arrange the clubs of the student body. Grievance Board gives the student a chance to express himself. Each board consists of four students from each class and four faculty members. ' O V 9 I' Ft American Field Service This year we were privileged to host two foreign students. They were Maki Iwamoto from Japan and Maria Alice Nassif from Brazil. The function of the AFS Club is to assist the community in raising funds to sponsor our student abroad. AFS Club hosted other exchange students from the Pittsburgh area, in a weekend of fun during the month of March. At that time the annual AFS show was presented. This year, for the first time students participated in the program. We welcome Maria and Maki, and hope they enioyed their stay with us. After Christmas, the twelve girl team began running every Tuesday and Thursday after school. Between these practice sessions, the girls also ran at home. The team is headed by co-captains Jean Bobincheck and Janice Bull. They hope to compete with other schools offer- ing girls trock in the spring. Although the turnout for members this year was small, the girls encourage all willing females to participate in the coming seasons. The officers of the club are: President - Cindy Peters, Vice-President - Pam Greene, Secretary - Gail Steinburg, Treasurer - Karen Myers, Historian - Beth Berti. The F.H.A. is affiliated with the state and national F.H.A. chapters, and they attended the regional meeting at Keystone Oaks High School in October. F.H.A. has three goals: They are education, service, and social. The group has done a number of things this year. Some of them were: Bake Sales, favor-making, Mother's Day dinner for the member's moms, and a surprise Christmas Party for Mrs. White. The members of Gourmet Cooking risked fighting the battle of the waistline in order to test new methods of preparing food. Mr. Simpson and the future chefs wanted to learn how to make different, exciting dishes such as: Baked Alaska, Spinach Souffle, Shishkabob, Fettucini, Tempora, and many more exotic meals. Each student was to bring in one thing which was assigned to her and each was to have a specific iob to do. The members were pleased with the jobs they did and each had to admit that even the dirty dishes, pots, and pans were not enough to discourage them. This year's Chess Club didn't have enough members to hold a championship chess tourna- ment, but the members did have an enioyable time on Thursdays meeting to see who could be King for a Day. The cIub's main activity this year was a canned goods collection for the Mcguire Home and the Union Aid in which they collected over 1800 cans. The G.A.A., Varsity and Junior Varsity, competes with other local schools in Volleyball, Basket- ball, and Softball. Bowling is an interleague sport. The members compete among themselves for high average and high points. G.A.A. also has gymnastics. This year's Pep Club was headed by Presi- dent Priscilla Harrison, Vice-President Barb Becker, and Secre- tary Debbie Belcastro. The Pep Club is responsible for the cute locker decorations hung on the lockers of the boys in various school sports throughout the year. They also make signs for the pep rallies and pass out candy to the boys on the football team. Many thanks to the girls who devoted so much of their spare time to make this club possible this year! The Gymnastics- Club is a new club started this year and is under the competent leadership of Mr. Carson. Each member works at his own pace on any of the skills included in gymnastics. They have at their dis- posal the use of the mats for tumbling, parallel bars, high bar, ropes, and balance beams. On Tuesdays after school these interested students spend their time in proving their skills on the apparatus and their coordination and agility.
