Exploring the ever expanding held of modern music, can be considered the goal of the Modern Music Club. Each week a committee of students prepares and provides a musical glance at various types of music. The listening spectrum has ranged from the current psychadelic to the jazz of the forties. Mr. Roth, sponsor of the club, along with Mary Guy-President, has helped its members gain a greater insight in the music Held. Hoping to achieve finesse and skill equal to that of their sponsors, Mr. Taylor and Mr. Russell, the merry mates of the Quaker Valley Chess Club meet weekly to challenge and improve their chess ability and technique. Members test their skill playing one another and participating in play-off tournaments. Some of the club's best vied with chess players from other schools and were met with mixed, but encouraging success. Modern Music Club-Chess Club

Successfully fulfilling its purpose of promoting a better understanding of the peoples of the world and their problems, the World Affairs Club has had an interesting and prosperous year, under the direction of Mr. Simpson. Early in the fall, the club organized a presidential mock election. By setting up headquarters and rallies for the major candidates, the club strove to acquaint students with the policies of the candidates, helping them to decide in their choice. The more avid members of the club, representing Austria, Niger, Monaco, and the United States, took part in the January and March assemblies in Pittsburgh. The Local United Nation introduced new members of the club and prepared them for S. U. N. The club also aided in American Field Service activities by sponsoring AFS day, inviting foreign exchange students from surrounding schools to spend a day at Quaker Valley and selling tickets for the fund raising AFS show. Hoping to add to their wardrobes by creating sweaters, scarfs, socks, mittens, and slippers the knitting club, with the help of Mrs. Koehler and Miss Sebolt, deciphered the complicated instructions accom- panying knitting patterns. In addition to gaining knitting skill, the members became adept at needle- point and crocheting. Debate C.lub's primary activity this year included debating other school's forensic groups on the topic of Compulsory Service By All Citizens. The Quaker Valley team fought on the negative and affirmative side with great success. Members of the club who achieved enough points gained membership in the National Forensic League. Mr. Peliaia, club sponsor, looks forward to having the club become part of the Western Pennsylvania Debate circuit. nitting Club-Debate Club
