Iacobucci, band director and harmony and theory teacher. His enduring patience, tremendous enthusiasm, and great love for the student body have helped to produce terrific half-time shows, pep rallies, parades and concerts. Doing so, he promoted the spirit and pride that was needed in our school. In dedicating this book to Mr. I we hope that we will be able to give back to him all that he has given to us. Administration The man Without purpose is like a ship without a rudder-a Waif, a nothing, a no man. Have a purpose in life, and, having it, throw such strength of mind and muscle into your Work as God has given you. THOMAS 'CARLYLE There, in two short sentences, is the story of life-the story of each man's life, the story of your life. Without a purpose you may well spend the remainder of your life drifting on the sands of time unable to gain a foothold to ease your burden as you struggle to advance. With a purpose but lacking the determination to make use of the faculties God has given you, the winds and storms of life may make it impossible for you to achieve that which you vision. Therefore, have a goal, use to their utmost the abilities you possess, and with God's help you will steer a straight and profitable course on your journey through life. R. A. MCNAMARA DR. ROBERT A. Collecting the high points of the year, Quotes' representatives were seen with cameras in hand at sports events, spring activities, and other school gatherings. To qualify for the highest honor of the school, a student must maintain an average of 3.0 and must be selected by two-thirds faculty vote. Thirty-two members of the Class of 1969 met these qualiiications and were elected to the Honor Society in May, 1968. Under the guidance of Mrs. Chantler, Art Club members worked diligently on entries in the Scholastic art exhibit and on individual projects. Group projects this year included a football, track, and baseball emblem, which will be added to the gym decor. Art Club membership was open to students having a special interest in the art field. They were chosen by their art work and a composition on their personal art interest. Meetings held every Tuesday evening enabled members to experiment in different media on their own time. Guest speakers also aided in giving the members a better knowledge of the vast art field. ational Honor Society-Art Club ,Ee This year's Student Council's hard work once again guaranteed our student body a voice in school affairs. Mr. Schroth, a flower arranger himself, sponsored the club. The purpose of the Floraculture Club is to practice different methods of Hower displays by arranging. The club started out by mastering arrangements made with artificial flowers and then advanced to real flower arrange- ments and the making of corsages. The club also donated vases of flowers and plants to various rooms in the school building. F.T.A. was again affiliated with the state convention. The club oflicers, Patty Gurgovitz-Presidentg Margie Molitor-Vice-Presidentg and Mary Stinson-Secretary-Treasurerg led the club in discussions on various topics. Successfully fulfilling its purpose of promoting a better understanding of the peoples of the world and their problems, the World Affairs Club has had an interesting and prosperous year, under the direction of Mr. Simpson. Early in the fall, the club organized a presidential mock election. By setting up headquarters and rallies for the major candidates, the club strove to acquaint students with the policies of the candidates, helping them to decide in their choice. The more avid members of the club, representing Austria, Niger, Monaco, and the United States, took part in the January and March assemblies in Pittsburgh. The Local United Nation introduced new members of the club and prepared them for S. U. N. Mr. Roth, sponsor of the club, along with Mary Guy-President, has helped its members gain a greater insight in the music Held. Hoping to achieve finesse and skill equal to that of their sponsors, Mr. Taylor and Mr. Russell, the merry mates of the Quaker Valley Chess Club meet weekly to challenge and improve their chess ability and technique. Debate C.lub's primary activity this year included debating other school's forensic groups on the topic of Compulsory Service By All Citizens. The Quaker Valley team fought on the negative and affirmative side with great success. Members of the club who achieved enough points gained membership in the National Forensic League. Mr. Peliaia, club sponsor, looks forward to having the club become part of the Western Pennsylvania Debate circuit. nitting Club-Debate Club The Key Club, an all boys Kiwanis-related organization, whose motto is We Build, was one of the most active clubs in the school. After a busy summer working with the Kiwanis at the annual Harvest Festival, the boys returned ready to participate in many school activities. During football season, they sold spirit ribbons helping to promote much of the school spirit. Other activities in which the Key Club participated were collecting tickets and printing line-ups for the basketball games, holding a successful work day, and aiding the Kiwanis on pancake day. Mr. Adams, the club sponsor, who has traveled extensively throughout Germany, enriches the meetings with many personal anecdotes. ' The main annual event of the club is the Language Festival at Buhl Planetarium, in which all the club members reveal their hidden talents in competition with other schools. Library Club, a new addition to the activity roster, and Library Aides spend a lot of time and study halls in the library. Both clubs are dedicated to broaden its members' knowledge of the library and its related occupations. With the guidance of Miss Scheehan, the clubs are making plans for a handbook to aid the student in his library work. The clubs are also planning a field trip to the Hillman Library and the Hunt Botanical Library. Though small in number, these two clubs are large in enthusiasm. German Club-Librar Aids Club The Girls Athletic Association again enjoyed a successful year. The girls competed against such high schools as Coraopolis, Bellevue, and the Sewickley Academy. They participated in such sports as volley- ball, basketball, bowling, and softball. Membership is awarded upon earning two letters in any one sport or participating in a sport for three consecutive years. Every member of the Varsity Club will receive a varsity jacket during his senior year if he has sold a designated number of boosters and participated in Varsity Club sponsored activities. Var it lub-Coaches Qs N? The building of a salesman begins with a solid education and the creative help of Mr. Peluso and The Distributive Education Club of America, D.E.C.A. Their main activities revolve around com- peting with other D.E. students from Allegheny County in contests and decorating a display Window with articles which they have constructed. This newly formed club enables it's members to improve their prowess at volleyball and in the use of gymnastic apparatus. Under the direction of Miss Branney and Mrs. Olinger, the girls have an op- portunity to use their pent-up energy while socializing with their classmates. D.E.C.A.- olleyball Entertainers' Club organized an interesting talent assembly during the school year. In addition club members discussed various aspects of entertaining. Gary DeLembo was selected chairman of the club. The Boys' Athletic Club met this year with the goal of providing for the boys two periods of un- restricted athletic participation. Coach Kenneth Johns helped the boys with improving their skills in playing volleyball, basketball, and other sports. Entertainers? Club- thletic Club Tennis Club, new this year, proved successful in spite of inadequate facilities and large numbers of members. Miss Stevens taught novices the fundamentals of the game and gave many helpful hints to the more advanced players. During the winter the club was limited to the use of only one-half of the gym, but in the spring, intramural tournaments were organized at the court in Leetsdale Borough Park. The Pep Band, made up mostly of school band members, played at the majority of our home bas- ketball games. Having no oflicial sponsor, they st got together to show their support for the team. They contributed to the entertainment during the half-time shows and played Sweet Georgia Brown, the team's theme song, during the varsity warmups.
