How- ever this year as in the past club members proved to be successful businessmen. They sponsored bake sales as a means of support- ing the A F S program. The club pur- chased Swiss and West German flags to represent our 1967-68 exchange students. The Spanish Club also donated seventy-five dollars to the A F S general fund. The aim of French Club is to give French students an opportunity to expand their knowledge of the language, life and culture of the French people and the history of the country. The unique feature of this club was that it had an executive board, rather than a cabinet of officers which made de- cisions. Each grade level had representatives on the board based on the number of stu- dents in the club, and the rules and regula- tions were based on a constitution which the members had formed. Monthly com- mittees planned activities. These activities included taking imaginary trips to cities and provinces through tapes and records, and hearing speakers such as the French speaking foreign exchange student from Switzerland, Jean Walder. The club,s spon- sor, Miss McFarland, provided the club with records which she brought back from France and with her vast knowledge of the country. WOM L . Although the German Club could not meet as the other language clubs this year, it more than equaled them in achievement. The meetings were filled with newsreels, volksbieder, lively discussions, fine movies and stories from Herr Adams' wide personal experiences. Once again this year the club participated in a memorable choral program at the Buhl Planetarium. This year the Latin Club, sponsored by Mr. Walker, became the Junior Classical League with the state and gained national affiliation. The club's newspaper, MEMO- RANDA kept the students posted on cur- rent school events, as Well as articles on poetry and mythology. Club members sent projects to the Classical Association of Pittsburgh and sent representatives to par- ticipate in a Latin achievement test spon- sored by Allegheny County. During the year the members increased their knowledge of Latin and learned much about Roman culture. German Club, Latin Club
