To the Class of 1968: Calvin Coolidge once remarked, All growth depends upon activity. There is no develop- ment physically or intellectually without effort, and effort means work. Work is not a curseg it is the prerogative of intelligence, the only means to manhood, and the measure of civilizationf' In addition to calling for action, it seems that the above also advances the principle that man must not be indilferent to what takes place around him. Man must-if he is to increase his own frame of reference-be aware not only of the evil, but of the goodg not only of the ugly, but of the beautiful, not only of the drabness, but also the brightness. Awareness then should bring action, action to change that which needs to be changed, and action to enjoy that which is man's privi- lege to enjoy. R. A. McNamara DR. ROBERT A.
