Gary Smith, Shawn Kamthong, Bunny Griflith, Dick Ramsey, Tom Seren. The 1966-1967 season was an especially memorable one for the Quaker Valley Chapter of the American Field Service. Dick Ramsey, representing Quaker Valley in the Americans Abroad Program, spent the summer of 1966 in Northern Ireland with several different Irish families. Although he failed to come home with a brogue, Dick did return from the Emerald Isle with a wealth of anec- dotes and a line collection of color slides, both of which made a highly interesting assem- bly soon after school resumed in the fall. Of our two foreign exchange students this year, the first to arrive was Tom Seren from Kauniainen, Finland. He spent the year with Gary Smith and his family in Edgeworth. Quaker Valley was quite fortunate in having such an able athlete, Coach Nusskern made use of Tom on both the football and track teams, where the friendly Finn earned quite a reputation as an extra-point kicker and hurdler. Tom's wry wit and fine sense of humor won him many friends. Our second A.F.S. exchange student from abroad, Chompoonute Kamthong of Bangkok, Thailand, came to Q.V. later in the autumn. Shawn, as she was known to her multitude of friends, stayed with Bunny GrifF1th's family in Edgeworth. Her warm personality, ever- present smile, and pleasant friendliness made her very popular. The school benefited greatly from Shawn's artistic talents. In March the 1967 A.F.S. musical, My Name is Music, drew supercapacity crowds in a memorable three-night stand. Both Shawn and Tom helped to make the show a success, Tom sang in the male chorus and Shawn rendered an intricate Siamese dance. Graduation this year came with a bit of sadness, for we lost two unforgettable good friends. We wish both Tom and Shawn the best of everything in the future and hope to meet them again-somewhere, sometime. American Field Service

With over seventy members the World Affairs Club was once again one of the most popu- lar activities at Quaker Valley. This year, with Mr. Simpson as sponsor, the club engaged in a diversity of activities to help its members better understand other peoples and nations. Representing the United States, Nicaragua, Colombia, Yemen, and Niger, about one-third of the members participated in the january and March sessions of the annual Student United Nations in Pittsburgh. In addition, the club sponsored two Local United Nations assem- blies. In December it invited students from Sacred Heart to a mock ECOSOC assembly. In February Quaker Valley hosted delegates from Ambridge, Coraopolis, Moon, and Montour for a General Assembly L.U.N. But not all the World Affairs Club's activities involved the U.N. The members aided the annual A.F.S. musical in a variety of Ways. In the spring they held their annual A.F.S. Day, on which foreign exchange students from other local schools visited Q.V.H.S. and spoke about their native countries.
