To the Class of 1967: Hlashington Irving said, Great minds have purposes, others have wishes. In the years ahead you will find yourself indulging in the trait common to many, that of wishing for one thing or another. However, if you place credence in what Washington Irving said, then you must accept the philoso- phy that with purpose there is action, and with wishing there is inaction. When life is active and purposeful, there is physical, mental and spiritual growth. Mlhen life is devoid of purpose, it becomes apathetic and inundated by atrophy. As the future unfolds before you, may you ex- perience an inner zest for life and stride for- ward with confident and purposeful steps. R. A. McNamara DR. ROBERT A. 5 wi A The yearbook staflf respectfully dedicates the 1967 Quaker Quotes to Mr. David R. Simpson, teacher of world cultures and prob- lems of democracy. His enthusiastic, stimulat- ing teaching has aroused countless Quaker Valley students to a deeper interest in the world around them, while broadening the minds of those so dogmatic and narrow- minded that they never before regarded the opinions of others. His constant courtesy pro- vides a splendid example of gentlemanliness for everyone with whom he comes in contact. Having served as the first adult sponsor and one of the guiding lights of Student United Nations of Western Pennsylvania, Mr. Simp- son enjoys a fine reputation far beyond the Quaker Valley area. His philosophy as spon- sor of VVorld Affairs Club-that the club should not become a sponsor-dominated ac- tivity-has consistently made it one of the most popular activities at the high school. YVorking in the concession stand at football games, Mr. Simpson has helped junior classes improve their financial status for many years. The many students whom he has taught and aided will never forget the debt of gratitude they owe this fine teacher. Dedication
