Text from Pages 1 - 168 of the 1984 volume:

Yesterday a child came out to wonder, caught a dragonfly inside a jar . . . We. Ihe Class of 1984, while perhaps not known for our maluriW, always have managed to enjoy ourselves. We have played many games, some with rules: basketball, cageball, spin the bottle. We have al played games whose rules and purposes were not so clearly defined, such as the games of junior high. SAT’s. Dad-can-I-have-the- car-keys? , and applying to colleges. Through it all we ' ve never lost sight of our essential goal: to learn from our ex- periences while having a good time. As we go on to play the other games of life, such as college, careers, and mar- riage. we will continue to rely on our ex- periences at Quabbin to help us suc- ceed. We hope to achieve our essential goal, learning and growing and enjoying the game. sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone noWy cartwheels turn to car wheels through the town . . . Over the years Mrs. Scanlan has been thanked for her dedication and enthusiasm many times, and she deserves all the thanks that can be offered. She supported our creative ideas and helped us to express them through her experience in designing yearbooks. Her calm attitude enabled us to survive both major and minor disasters. With love and gratitude we say “Thank you,” Mrs. Scanlan, for your commitment to our yearbook. To Michael L. Richard: The year we began our career at Quabbin as students, you began your career at Quabbin as a teacher. You grew with us and you shared our lives. You were with us from the first meeting in eighth grade all the way through those final steps to “Pomp and Circumstance . Through many good times: the Muppet Movie, the ice cream bash, the freshman party, donkey basketball, “Childhood,” the spaghetti supper, the junior prom, and “Horror Bashes. ’ You also struggled witn us through some times which were not quite so succes ul: the “money-making” popcorn machine, tumblers, sophomores’ Chinese fire-drills, the Muppet Caper, and bad luck in One Act judgments. You are more of a friend and member of our class than an advisor. Your patience with our sometimes misdirected energy has been surprising and always appreciated. The time and effort you have contributed to our class is immeasurable. When we leave you “84-less,” there will no longer be constant aisruption in your life. Yet as we go on to play new “games” we will always remember the love and support you have riven us. In an attempt to return some of that love and support; we dedicate our yearbook to you, Mike Richard. Presented by the Class of 1984 1983 The One Act Play Competition of 1983 consisted of four well-written, well- performed plays. The Class of 1987 presented A Mixed-Up Melodrama by Carolyn Lane, under the co-direction of Mr. Rick Stickle and Mrs. Kate McGonigle. Ms. Elbe Mandragouras was the director of the sophomore play The Death of Grandma. This one-act play was written by two members of the Class of 1986. Sandra Mclntire and Sam Roberts.
