A sense of pride for Quabbin has developed within us. Although students are from varied backgrounds and live in four different towns, this new regional school has unified us. Getting things going smoothly has not been easy, but in doing so, lasting friendships and memories have been formed. Quabbin has offered us many opportunities. Some of us have excelled in sports; others have acquired a sense of responsibility and knowledge. From this, leaders were born. We are grateful for the effort and sacrifices made on the part of both teachers and administration. They have helped prepare us for the future and for the problems we will have to face. We are now able to confront such problems with confidence and understanding. We, the class of 1969, present EXODUS. Exodus Staff Editor-in-chief . Michael Staiti Mr. Michael Staiti is a man of many youth- ful ideas with the energy to back them up. As our Senior Class advisor, he accepted the job of making our last year at Quabbin Regional one which we shall never forget. He endeavored to guide our class through the projects and activities we participated in and did so successfully. In appreciation and thanks for his endless time and in- volvement, we dedicate our yearbook. 4 Dedication Mr. Glenn Stratton Mr. Glenn Stratton accepted the challenge of molding the first Junior students at Quabbin Regional into a united class. He sacrificed his valuable time to help us build a stable foundation from which we launched several activities, including our very successful prom. In appreciation and thanks for his patience and interest, we dedicate our yearbook. 5 MR . Because of its greater experience, the team was much improved and utilized many newly ac- quired skills in the fall sport. The girls combined high spirits with hard work, and they were rewarded by having a sea- son more successful than in 1967. Coached by Mrs. Barbara Caplette and Mrs. Nadine Plummer, the team worked hard to achieve a record of 3 wins, 3 losses, and 3 ties . 1 Varsity Soccer FIRST ROW: J. Breault; J. Gadanowicz; W. Growning its accomplishments, the team proceeded to the Western Massachusetts tournament and won its first game, advancing Quabbin to the semifinal round. Here, the team was finally stopped by a fine, experi- enced Springfield Glassical eleven. Much credit should be given to coach Charlie Campbell who took a team on its way up last year and turned it into a top producer this season. Cross Country FIRST ROW: R. Makela; M. Germain; F. The team owes much to Coach John Bullard for developing last year ' s losing team into a winner. The coach is very optimistic about next year, since his junior varsity team, led by Fay Butler, Paul Meagher, Ed Shepard, and Dave Laporte, had a record of ten wins and only one loss . The team ' s 11-7 record displayed some impressive wins, such as those over North Brookfield, Mon- son, and Ware, a four -overtime victory. The Panthers, without top shooting stars, achieved their victories through combined determination, hustle, team spirit, and Coach Dymon ' s excellent strategy. Every game, either home or away, was attended by a large crowd of Quab- bin followers who were very pleased with the outcome of the season . Junior Varsity Basketball FIRST ROW: J. Kelley; J. Paxman, manager When the junior varsity bas- ketball season began, the bleachers werb only half full, but soon spectators started filling the gym to watch an exciting J.V. team establish a fine season record of 17 wins and 3 losses. Several of these victories were by narrow margins of 1 or 2 points, and the team suf- fered only one league loss to Palmer. Probably one of the most satisfying wins was accomplished in overtime after the junior Panthers tied Ware High School with one second left on the clock. The combination of great team effort and a fine coach, Mr. Fred Podbelski, led to the Ouaboag League junior varsity championship. Freshman Basketball FIRST ROW: R, Dowell, manager; J. Petracone; D. Of this number, twenty “two were chosen to represent the Quabbin var- sity and junior varsity clubs . Coached by Mrs . Plummer and Mrs. Caplette, the team worked very hard. Although the season was somewhat disappointing and they won only one league game, the girls felt that the year’s high point was the game against the women faculty, which they won 24 to 22 . Mrs. Caplette, the coach, worked tirelessly with the girls to improve their skills and broaden their experience with the game. Throughout their entire season, the girls always maintained that high quality that is expected of Quabbin competitors . 90 Varsity Baseball FIRST ROW: L. Harrison; J. Lapati; R. Widing; G. Paxman The Quabbin Regional baseball team had a very successful season for a first year club. The team ' s morale was very high, and the boys showed the hustle, good spirit, and sportsman- ship characteristic of all Panther squads. The team worked hard for its coach, Mr. Fred Podbelski, whose fine leadership and ability to make decisions in all ballgames contributed immensely to our success. The most valuable player award went to Paul Gilley for his fine hitting and pitching. Paul was also one of our co -captains along with Bill Parsons. Both boys were excellent leaders of the team . We hope the Panther nine has as fine a record next year as it did during the past. 92 93 Junior Varsity Baseball FIRST ROW: M. Sinkoski; E. Erickson; A. Inzerello; P. Czabaj; M. Coppolino; M. Duplisea; Mr. Dymon, coach Coached by Mr. Michael Dymon, the junior varsity baseball Panthers learned the skills necessary to produce a fine team, finishing the ' 68 season with a 5-5 record. Coach Dymon would rather take a young crop of boys and build them into a strong team than start with all the talent in the world . The J.V. nine has become this strong team and should pro- duce many good ballplayers for the ' 69 games. 94 Wrestling FIRST ROW: J. Nicholson; J. Slavitsko; J. Carruth; T. Dorsey; M. Nicholson; P. Pluta 95 The Quabbin wrestling team got off to a good start by winning its first meet, a four -school tangle at the Springfield College gym . The team, led by seniors Gary Parsons, Mike Murphy, Joe Breault, and Jon Carruth, wound up victorious in four of its fifteen meets, losing several others by just a few points . Although hindered by a lack of manpower in the higher weight classes, Quabbin won more individual bouts than the opponents . The seasonal scores cannot show how much the team improved in only the second year of wrestling for most of the boys . Coach Carlton Perry expects fine results in the future from this spirited group, with eight of twelve starters returning for next year ' s campaign. Track And Field FIRST ROW: C. Chase; F. Bowles; R. Taylor, most valuable player : • Considering that 1968 was the first year for track and field at Quabbin Regional, the team did quite well. Most of the boys had never participated in this sport before, but as the season pro- gressed, everyone could see great improvements . Coach Bullard ' s team put in a lot of hard work, practicing every day. Although the boys won only three meets, the players still deserve much praise, for they competed against the best in Central Massachusetts. .t I ii I li lUWtlWP The Latin Club’s Roman Holiday A Spanish Fiesta 101 Sadie Hawkins Day Mj.iin ' CS .
