To its students, it m€ans high school ' ' years spenf td$tfng new ideas, making new frifends, being involved and active, . and maturing through just being part of it all. To the -Class of 1968, a regional • . : • school means m ' uch more. How do wej th difSt graduating class of Quabbin Regional High School, look at our y r at f uabbin? Our year has been unusual. -Soifietimes, we wanted to hum the school song, and then realized that d song had not yet been written. Our year has been bfte of mixed emotions . We knew our past high school years were good. We accepted the idea that the present one could be just as ' goqd, and we anticipated a great future . J f ' J. - V Out ifear has had its difficulties. We wondered why fate chose to remove us ftonf e secure, the familiar, the predictable. The studies have been harder, and adjustments have not always come easy. w - Our year has had its joys. We crushed the giant of the ' ' past” on the basket- ball court. We knew the satisfaction of helping to start something that will not end after we leave. The 1968 Yearbook is the picture story of our year at Quabbin. It expresses the meaning of Quabbin to us. It shows that this year has been more th3n an experience in learning- -through its continual change and newness, it has been and experience in living! Administration Those who are entrusted with the responsibility of making our school system succeed. Corridon F. Trask, Jr. Keene State College Boston University B.S. Ed., M.Ed. Superintendent Kent F. Bailey Keene State College B.S. Ed., M.Ed. Principal James R. Fiorello Fitchburg State College B.S. Ed., M.Ed., C. A.G.S. Assistant Principal Dedication We, the Class of 1968, respectfully dedicate our Yearbook to Mr . WeikkoR. Holopainen, only charter member presently serving on the Quabbin Regional School Committee. Through his untiring effort, Mr. Holopainen played a vital role in making Quabbin Regional a reality. For his great personal contribution, we express our sincere gratitude. 6 Quabbin Regional School Committee (Sept. 1967) FIRST ROW: Mrs. Helen Pluta, (Hardwick); Mrs. Mary Parsons, (Oakham); Mr. Weikko Holopainen, (Hubbardston); Mr. Walter Flister, (Barre); and Mrs. Daisy Widing, (Committee Secretary). SECOND ROW; Mr. Kenneth Green, (Hubbardston); Mr. Anthony Menegoni, (Barre); Mr. JohnCzabaj, (Hardwick); Mr. Richard Whippie, (Barre); Mr. John Gould, (BaiTe)--Vice-Chairman; Mr. John Ritter, (Hardwick)- -Ghairman; and Mr. Matthew Trifilo, (Barre). Like most things in life, a high-quality school system does not just happen. It in- volves inspiration, effort, and sacrifice. This fact we acknowledge; therefore, we wish to extend our dedication to the following: For Inspiration- -To members of the Regional Planning Committees and their supporters who saw in the regional concept a solution to the educational problems confronting their respective towns. Those who served included Weikko Holopainen (Chairman), Robert Dill, and Norman Gallagher from Hubbardston; James Chiller! (Treasurer), Leroy Dawson and Gilbert Upham from Barre; Roger Lonergan (Vice- Chairman), Max Kuhner, and Willard Rutherford from Oakham; and Jos eph Valardi (Secretary), Dr. Charles Hinckley, and Mrs. Stephanie Socha from Hardwick. For Effort --To past and present members of the Quabbin Regional School Committee for the countless hours involved in district plan- ning, school construction, curriculum development, staff selection, and creation of school policy. Former members of the committee include John Bentley, Wayne Cauvin, John Ciccone, Paul Jordan, and Louis Panaccione from Barre; John Eysenbach, Dr. Charles Hinckley, and Mrs. Chloe Moriarty from Hardwick; and from Hubbardston, Richard Lyon, Jr. Of great assistance to the Quabbin Regional School Committee in the drawing up of educational specifications was Dr. Charles L, Bowlby, consultant and first superintendent. For Sacrifice --To the citizens of Barre, Hardwick, Hubbardston, and Oakham for their willingness to provide and support a high- quality educational system for their sons and daughters as an In- vestment in Youth. We, the Class of 1968, are indeed grateful for having the opportunity to be the First graduating class of Quabbin Regional High School. Artistry in action. Every stitch counts. Checking the specs. POST GRADUATES Myra Muir Avis Nichols Patricia Roberts In Appreciation i: To Mr. Graham; We, the Class of 1968, would like to thank you for all you have done for us this year. We realize that the job of advising a senior class involves time, work, and a strong sense of caring. When seniors form a class for the first time, as in a new regional school, their advisor knows that his job will be twice as difficult. We hope that, for you, it has been twice as fulfilling. When students arrive, and a new building becomes a school, a tremendous responsibility lies ahead for the Director of Ath- letics. School spirit does not come as a by-product of a new school; it must be built. Crea- tion of pride depends a great deal upon the success of its athletic program. You have provided Quabbin with the beginning of a tradition of pride and achievement in sports. Any advisor or athletic director is a teacher first. We, your students, have shared in an experience that will mean much in our future. You expected a lot from us, and we not often thought ourselves capable of attaining your goals. But, we always felt a secret pride that you saw that potential in us . You accepted the duties of teacher, athletic director, and our class advisor fully aware of the problems and gratifications of each --and you have failed none. We greatly appreciate all that you have given to us and to our new school. At this im- portant time in its young history, Quabbin has had a designer and a builder. At this important time in our lives, we have had a friend. Sincerely yours. Quabbin had its own Impossible Dream when our basketball team won enough games to qualify for the District III Tournament. The last game of the season with Wachusett had to be won and was --in a triple over- time! For sheer excitement, the game will never be for- gotten. For Coach Dymon molding a tournament -bound team in one short season, out of boys coming from four different towns who had never played together, was truly a remarkable achievement.
