Gurls Lecurn To Care For Future Homes Teachung clothung constructuon to pupuls sux peruods a day was lust part of the task that faced Duane Ross graduate of Washungton State Unuversuty durung her furst year as a Puyallup home economucs teacher Besides clothung Muss Ross taught home furnushungs textules and consumer educatuon to her classes Her full schedule was un creased as she fulfulled her dutues Us advuser to Vukung Ladies Future Homemakers of Ameruca Grant TruHuY and Costume Club A Costume Club advuser she helped with the costumes for the plays and Vukung Varuetues Muss Ross played a malor part again as advuser un the annual style show which chose Around the World un Fufty Fashions as uts theme ln thus style show th gurls modeled the clothes they made un class for both fun and the pruze money awarded by the Sears foundatuon B Janice Arndt rv in fi: ulflllllf -ICQ KIIIIT3 Duane Ross center guves a few pounters on making 'lu' EEF nu-fs dress to Erruelua Judd rght In the b ckground us Under the supervsuon of Helen Alexander begunnung home economics sudents prepared simple breakfasts of toast and cocoa and then progressed to more elaborate meals Basuc fundamentals of proper grooming were also uncluded un thus course rangung from proper table mann rs to correct posture Students un ad vanced classes were taught home nursing the care of small chuldren and watched th preparation of dufferent and detailed meals as demonstrated by Muss Alexander Some of the other thungs covered were how to make a balanced duet as well as a balanced budget Muss Alexander also taught a course ln famuly luvung un whuch senuors were acquainted wuth many of the problems that they mught encounter un a home such as home planning money management and chuld care Thus years Future Home makers of Ameruca Club was advused by Muss Alexander 'lm-s Explaining the dutferent cuts of beet to her home economucs class us Helen Alexander Vusutors to the home economucs department were Eu Lan Oh e of Malaya and Pervus F Jasvala rught of Zanzubar Muss Eu Lan Oh from the Methodust Gurls school un Penang Malaya was one of two for eugn teachers to vusut Puyallup Hugh School thus year on an unternatuonal program sponsored by the State Department Muss Oh who teaches home economics was one of sux hundred edu cators from throughout the world who are takung part un thus program She was accompanued by others from Turkey and Zanabar Durung her speech to the home economuc classes Mss Oh told of her travels and precon ceived ideas about the United States.
