Students Converse In Foreign Languages That siestas are taken from one to three in the afternoon in almost every Spanish speaking country in the world was just one of the many customs taught by Mr Bill Mason Some of the other projects included were oral converasttons translative reading and critical evaluation of a newscast from Equador Mr Mason also was advisor to Spanish Club ln this years sophomore English classes Hugh McNomar specialized in the introduction of oral speaking Some of the things stressed nn his course were speeches of entertainment information of interest and demon stratton He also included debate and panel discussions Bull Mason records an oral test for one of his Spanish classes Conversations in Spanish or nn French were lust part of the many activities of these two foreign language classes taught by William Denevan Among other prol ects the students translated articles from current French and Spanish magazines Mr Denevan was also adviser to Honor Society and the French and Spanish clubs Covering usual grammar punctuation spelling and speech rules were some of the many items taught by Alice Hickey Mrs Hickey freshman English teacher also served as a freshman class adviser May I help you? Stanley Brewster helps Allen Reinhart correct his English pa ers Individual Work Done ln Classes Advising the staffs of the Viking Vanguard and the Viking sometimes seems like a full time lab but Stanley Brewster also found time to teach two freshman English classes and a class of cub reporters These first year lournalists learned how to count headlines write leads and construct a good news story They made ad make ups read proof sheets and performed various 'obs given to them by the advanced lournalists Mr Brewsters busy schedule also allowed time for advising Quill and Scroll A new sublect was offered this year with the addition of a photography adviser Allen Reinhart had one full period to work with the photographers taking pictures for the annual and the school papers Mr Reinhart also taught three sophomore and two freshman English classes along with his photography duties made a full schedule John Draper listens class Gladys Sorenson watches while two senior girls, Carrie Halverson, left, and Eve yn Huske right, work on their art projects. Linoleum blockprints paintings clay model landscapes and paper sculpture-all of these were created by art students in the classes taught by Gladys Sorenson. In all second and third year classes the students were required to compile sketchbooks in which pictures ranged from flower pots to facial profiles. Spe- cial projects such as room arranging and oil paintings were done by third year students. Miss Sorenson also advised the iunior class and the Art Club. Beginning drama students gave several readings, pantomimes interpretations, and acted out one act plays, under the supervision of John Draper, drama instructor. Advanced students were re- the studentbody during the year. The third year program in- cluded plays from Shakespeare to current Brodway plays which quired to write a one act play, one of which was presented to X were studied, acted, and reported upon.
