V SHOP TALK From blueprint to boat Bob McGrew left and Carl Sparks B S KEEP BUSY W H WOOD AG SHOP PROJECTS Mechanical Drawing l featured three view drawings first in pencil then in ink Second year students studied protections and sectional views A complete set of house plans was drawn traced and blueprmted in the third year Sheet metal patterns are also developed Carl Sparks the instructor was also the athletic director and a guidance assistant First year woodshop students learned the basic steps of hand and simple machine woodworking In all three years certain prolects were undertaken some are re quired others the boys chose themselves Each third year student must give a demonstration on a machine for the class Freshman class adviser Robert McGrew was the mstructor for the woodshop classes right check details of one of the student protects made n AG MECHANICS woodshop Agriculture protects and studying dairy cattle were lust a part of the agriculture course The boys also obtained a basic knowledge of insects diseases and fertilizers. They learned the basic steps in constructing and repairing machinery and studied feeds feeding weeds grasses and marketing steers hogs and sheep. Individual shop proiects were the next step along with farm management. Metal shop teaches fundamental and advanced metal working techniques. The course included study and prac- tice of welding cutting and operating the steel lathe. Metal work units were included as were instructions on care and upkeep of the metal working tools and equip- ment. Mike Mowrer and Duane Kaiser, the instructors, were the advisers of Future Farmers of America. Mr. Mowrer also taught general science and Mr. Kaiser instructed the class in metal shop. 22 As Duane Kaiser adjusts the valves on a small tractor Mike Mowrer looks on giving his advice
