SEWING Muss Helen Alexander demonstrates the proper way to mux ungredlents to her Mrss Anne Arnold puns and futs Karen Harrus dress freshman class HOME EC PREPARES GIRLS FOR FUTURE By preparung sumple breakfasts of toast and cocoa and then progressung to more elaborate meals home economucs taught gurls how to become better homemakers Muss Helen Alexander supervused the gurls as they cooked showung them the best and most effucuent methods They learned how to make a balanced duet as well as a balanced budget Home nursung and care of the small chuld were also studued by the gurls Muss Alexander also taught a course un famuly luvung to senuors desugned to acquaunt them wuth many of the problems encountered un a home such as money manage ment home plannung and chuld care Muss Alexander also advused the Future Homemakers of Ameruca Muss Anne Arnold coached the gurls as they sewed theur way through varuous clothung prolects These prolects ranged from flannel palamas to taulored suuts and elaborate party dresses Chrustmas gufts were part of the gurls program they had to make somethung for the home or another unduvudual How to plan and arrange a sungle bedroom and later an enture house and furnuture was studued by the gurls to and them un plannung theur dream home The annual style show clumaxed the year wuth gurls competung for pruze money offered by the Sears foundatuon and showung off theur handuwork as well Muss Arnold also advused the Vukung Ladues and the costume commuttee CHERRY PIE WINNER HOMEMAKER OF TOMORROW CANDY COMING UP' DONNA DICkISOn prepares her pruze wun Nancy Jensen who won the Betty Crocker Freshmen gurls concentrate on theur work nung pue crust Award busuly stutches on the dress she us as they stur up a batch of delucuous candy makung Q4 ken--I T6 -it

STUDENTS APPRECIATION FOR CULTURE As music poured from room 313 the band and orches- tra practiced for concerts contests games and the daffo- dil parade. Band members headed by director Richard Graham marched in formation for several football games and played for all home basketball games Mr Graham taught band to grade school and lunlor hugh students in the mornings and then returned to the hugh school musl clans fifth and sixth period Robert McNamara director guided the orchestra through many popular semi classical and classical pieces for the concerts held this year He also worked with grade school and lunlor high music groups Both conductors pre pared students for All State and All Northwest Band and Orchestra besides aiding the many small instrumental groups Many wonders of the early Northwest are among the displays in the Paul Karshner Memorial Museum in care of Mrs Elizabeth Grunder During the year Mrs Grunder showed the displays to grade school and high school students The museum as open to the public during school hours After weeks of practice the chorus class ensemble and glee clubs under the direction of Louis Owens vocahzed for the enloyment of audiences at several pro grams throughout the year At Christmas a giant human Christmas tree was formed of members of the vocal music department Besides coaching the ensemble Mr Owens also taught a ninth grade chorus class directed the A Cappella Choir two glee clubs and Nonettes Top Mrs Elizabeth Grunder examines a wooden figurine of Confucius which rs displayed in the museum Lower Left Robert McNamara orchestra conductor and Richard Graham band director loin together for an impromptu duet Lower Right Louis Owens leads his second period chorus class over the lyrics ot a new song 4 if T5
