wifi BIOLOGY CLASS Sharon Schneider Don Locke and Lorraine Williams examine a craytish CHEMISTRY CLASS Ken Carlisle and Mike McCleary do a chemistry experiment PHYSICS CLASS Phyllis Hansen measures the actual horsepower of an A,-rf 6 SCIENCE FAIR PROMOTES Sputnik I, which was launched on Oct. 4, 1957, will not soon be forgotten. Ushering in the space age, it has placed a new emphasis on scientific education in America. Puyallups budding scientists began their career in general science There they skimmed lightly over such sub lects as sound weather and the stars under the instruction of John Durr Duane Kaiser and Mike Mowrer Advancing to biology the science students were intro duced to such things as phylums metamorphorsis pepsln, and the Obelia Labs ranged from observing a protozoa through a microscope to disecting unborn baby pigs under the watchful eyes of the biology teachers John Durr and Sterling Harshman Both Mr Durr and Mr Harshman served as sophomore class advisers and Mr Harshman coached the varsity track team and the football B squad Mn plus O yields MnO was lust the beginning in chemistry class and soon oxidation reduction the rotten egg odor of hydrogen sulfide frantic repeated attempts to produce oxygen within the required margin of error and original science fair prolects lthis year student chairman was Mickey Millerl became an ordinary part of the would be chemists lite Don Henry the chemistry instructor advised the Future Teachers of America and the Smoking Committee, coached the tennis team and also taught a consumers math class this year The study of physics delved deeper into the technical mysteries ot weather light sound and power The laws of nature that man has harnessed to do his bidding provide limitless opportunities to improve mans life Physics teacher Ray Prevost also taught an algebra class and a radio class in which the boys actually made their own radio sets Mr Prevost was a sophomore class adviser and the rifle team adviser SCIENCE TEACHERS John Durr Ray Prevost Sterling Harshman Don Henry 1 I I V I I I- . . . . - I I D . . .
