With this motivating thought of American Education Week set before the com- munity by President Henry Giles of the High School Teachers' Association, faculty members undertake work on the vital problem of the hour-American defense, and the contribu- tion to be made to it by education in Puyallup High School. Confirmation of the national faith in education as a first line of defense comes with President Roosevelt's letter to Principal Harry Hansen, in which he stresses the importance of keeping American youth of school age in school, since democracy can succeed only as well as our citizenry main- tains a high educational level.
