We greatly appreciate the time and effort which they have so unselfishly sacrificed to help us make our four years at Putnam High School the happiest years of our lives. As we venture out into the world of adult responsibility, we shall at times look back to our high school days, realizing that our parents' help was indispensable and that we should not have gained our respective positions had it not been for them. Therefore, it is with great feeling and much gratitude that we dedicate this yearbook in loving tribute to our parents. df'-ii - ,,..... ig -e l' il ff 1---,E 'E Q - I 'r - for dr' B . :.- 5 rfaf-self: 9 is - T '- g -ff Ji 5.2. . iq 'L 1' hy S' -1 -- I s..., 'A f- .w m f Q 1-.. fl. -L is r - cw' . ilk- wi n IQ'- gl 1'--00 4: 'x 2 tvs.:-HK, rx 11.7 -,Y l.,. ,-'fp' 1 VKQLN '7 , fl' gil' .A -1 L , r 2 - 'll -4 1 ff he Yi ,H - , l3 i V ii v ,gigii-TF? , i ' g 1 -1. i ' Tc ' -A Qld 2 -v , ,. 1.551 . . . - Q MISS ANNE HOQAN MISS EVELYN JOHNSON MR. MURPHY Superintendent of Schools MESSAGE T0 THE CLASS OF 1954 Dear Graduates: I congratulate you upon your graduation from Putnam High School. Go forward into the colleges, training and technical schools, into the vocations and into the work of the community, and do justice to yourselves and to the name of your school. Realize that you cannot get something for nothingg that you will only get out of life what you put into it. In all your endeavors realize the importance of health and happi- ness. Develop character and good citizenship. Develop a faith in God, in yourself, and in your fellowman. Learn to know the joy and satisfaction of real work. Seek and develop truthful and virtuous love. Build all these around a home, and the real values and joys of life should come to you. Sincerely yours, Albert J. We are happy to have you here tonight' to enjoy with us the less formal part of our commencement program. We extend a welcome to the boards of education of Putnam and Pomfret, and to the administrators and faculty of Putnam High School, under whose guidance we have suc- ceeded in reaching our goal. We should like to extend a word of special thanks to our parents and to our class advisers. With their patience and understanding, it was made possible for us to prepare ourselves for our places in society. We are very grateful for the advantages which were extended to us during our four years at Putnam High School. Class Night is the lighter side of our commencement exercisesg it brings back many highlights of our school days. We hope that you will enjoy hearing about them as much as we have enjoyed living them. ADDRESS TO THE JUNIORS privilege and duty to pass on to the members of the present Junior Class some conclusions resulting from our experiences this past year. Call this advice, if you desire, but rest assured of this one fact - to follow these ideas in your actions during your last year at Putnam High School will result in a profitable senior year, free of the usual growing pains. The keynote to a successful senior year is found in the word cooperation. Cooperation means that every member of the class abides by the decision of the majority and unites and works together in every way to translate this majority decision into constructive, unified action. Cooperation with the administration, class advisers, and teachers is also essential. Appreci- ate the many contributions which are made by the administration, class advisers, and faculty for your benefit beyond the classroom doors. 'Class Night is made possible by teachers giving their energy, wisdom, and time to groups participating in this program. Yearbooks, senior plays, school dan- ces, and many other activities conducted for our en- deavors. Thank you should be frequently on your lips to show your appreciation for these faculty con- tributions which enrich our high school days and leave us with so many pleasant memories. You should ever be mindful of the exceptionally fine physical facilities that we have at Putnam High School- especially when you see conditions prevalent in some Connecticut communities less fortunate than ours. As we, the graduates, take our places in the civic life of Putnam and Pomfret, we shall be alert to see that appreciation of these facilities is expressed by the actions of the users of the property and equipment. Cooperate with your parents and show your ap- preciation to them for the guidance they have given you and for the many sacrifices they have made in your behalf. Finally, show in thought and deed your realization that if education is an American's right, it also carries with it weighty responsibilities. OMER VALADB President, Class of 1954. CLASS SONG First Verse: We'll never forget the wonderful times We had here at Putnam High, There were times we said we'd be glad when through, But those careless words were not really true, For now we realize with tears in our eyes That these years were the best in our young lives, And now they are memories. First Chorus: Oh, it's a short, short time That we've spent here with you, And we'll hold it dear As our dreams all come true, And the autumn weather Turns our hearts to you. We shall e'er recall All you helped us do. Now the days dwindle down To a precious few. Remember, remember, For those so precious years Were all too few, And now we must Say our adieu. Second Verse: We're proud on this night when we are to part, Yet we are now sad to go. We are going out to a world that's new To face each high venture with hearts that are true. Our few years were as bright as orient pearls, We shall always hold dear the fun, the tears - These things will be ours always. Second Chorus: As we leave Putnam High, We'll always remember The days of learning With each fellow-member: As the end draws nearer, We'd all like to say It's so sad to see Graduation Day. While our days have been brief, They've been golden too, Rememb'ring our past years, As we take separate ways, We have no fear, But in our hearts There falls a tear.
