- Students' lives re- flected their interest in social concerns. In the last five years stu- dents have become more community conscious as shown in their scout and church Work. Volunteers walked miles for various medical s benefits, others served as candy stripers in local hospitals. Numbers Worked with retarded children and those in Convalescent Hospital. Approximately 200 students participated in the A schedule, thus leaving the building for jobs that start at noon. Work permits for early release were issued to 100-125 students. Forty students were trained in COE, DE, FM and ICE. In addition, 500 kids held .part time jobs. Students took part' in swim clubs at the Hefner bubble. Aware of physical fitness, boys took Weight lifting classes. Weekend and after school activities included coaching and umpiring in Little League athletic programs and jaunts to the lake. School busses Meet the needs Cf around 3000 Court-legislated busing and transferring for Oklahoma City Schools did not actually affect PC because of being a separate district. But the school became a part of the mess as students moved from the busing area. Due to fights between the racial groups at Southeast High School, during the Week that Putnam played the Spartans in football, the Band and Pep Club did not attend the game. Opening 9
