FACU LTY Teachers depicted as friend, parent and counselor PC's own 128 have fulfilled academic responsibilities along with many extracurricular services. Senior English teacher, Mr. Dean Baldwin, is vice-president of PC OEA. Keeping up with the field of Journalism, Mrs. Lois Thomas is president of OJEA and state director of JEA. Aside from her responsibilities in the Math Department, Mrs. Blanch Moon is acting president of the Alpha Chi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international women's honorary society. As well as being a member of the NEA Legislative Commissions, Mrs. Juanita Kidd is also the Oklahoma representative on the Board of Directors. She serves on the Citizenship Committee, Executive Committee and OEA Board of Directors. Mrs. Janie Bennet's interest in pre- paring students for the business world extends into the Central OEA District of Business Teachers. Volunteer work in the University Hospital has also received her attention for two years. Mrs. Marian Mathias, French teacher, acts as Academic Advisor for AIMS International. She is Parish Group Leader of Westminister Presbytarian as well as being reporter for her Sunday School class. The traditional tyrannical school masters are becoming extinct with the birth of the new age. In these changing times, the traditional concept that all school teachers are stern, domineering overlords is quickly diminishing be- cause it is no longer true. They still teach but seldom with whip in hand and threatening tone of voice. Students no longer learn because they 'have to or else' but because they have been instilled with the desire to learn as they become cognizant, of the place of education in the world of tomorrow. The type of dedication exhibited on the instructor's part is what continues to produce tomorrow's doctors, politicians and scientists. Lending themsleves whenever needed, teachers are called upon to offer the guidance of a counselor and are expected to demand and keep the respect given to a parent. By never failing to lose their sense of humor, comradeship between teacher and student is increased. In essence, what has evolved from the tyrannical school master is a friend, parent and counselor. Gaining these characteristics is a goal not easily achieved, it takes the best training and experience to reach it. Personal experience is derived from actual class- room practice teaching. The newest concepts and meth- ods of teaching are brought to the classroom through the student teachers, who keep in circulation fresh, new ideas.
