Melvin Corn, Principal Melvin Corn, principal here at Central for the past two years, accounts for over 1350 students as well as about 53 teachers. Administrative duties take most of his time, but Mr. Corn has two pastimes, breeding roses and fishing, to relax him. He was graduated from OCU with a BA degree and did graduate work at OSU and OU in administration. He re- ceived his Master's of teaching degree from Central State College, Edmond. Mr. Corn and his wife, Catherine, have two children, Danny, snr, and Dana, three. Leaders Account For 1350 Lendal Stevens, Vice Principal Mr. Lendal Stevens, first taught Special Edu- cational classes here before he became vice principal and physical education instructor. He has held this position for two years. Graduated with a BA in English from Central State College, Mr. Stevens is now working to- ward his Master of Teaching degree with a major in Education. Wife, Geraldine, and he have a five month old boy, Bradley Paul. Leo C. Mayfield, Superintendent Leo C. Mayfield, superintendent for the past three years, has been with Putnam City for 23 years. Graduated from Northwestern State College, he did graduate work at the University of Southern California: he received his Masters in Administration from OU. A member of the American Legion, he is a deacon of Putnam City Christian Church, active in the High School Activities Association, and was named Who's Who in the Southwest in 1966.

riting-Speaking Skills To develop basic skills in communication and to enlarge reading, writing, speaking, and lis- tening skills is the fundamental goal of any English classroom. Aids for this goal freading machines and work- ing labs, related texts, opaque and overhead projectors, record players, dictionaries, and composition booksj are available to all lan- guage arts teachers. Because the English language is built from many , Latin, French and Spanish are included in the Taught basics of communication. Study programs in the appreciation of other lands and their form of communicating are included. Practice comes in the speech classes where students perform on the stage or compete in con- tests with other schools. Here they learn to appreciate listening. For two years of her three here, Mrs. LaVeta Austin has been head of the Language Arts Depart- ment. Mrs. Norma Sandlin is her assistant.
