Mrs. Johnson isn't just a teacher with an eight hour a day job. She is one who spends much of her own time in putting out the Wildcat. There are few people who could be more surprised to receive this honor and none who could be more deserving. Dedicating the '67 Wildcat to Mrs. Johnson is our way of expressing our thanks for her time, hard work, and above all her patience in helping us pre- pare this annual for the student body. Our theme for '67, Going and Growing, repre- sents the change that has come over Central. We are proud of our school, it's growth, and activities. Throughout the following pages we give you the highlights of the year that tell the true story of Central, Going and Growing. Contents Dedication .... Administration . . . Student Life ..... Because of their vitality and comradeship in the endeavor to become future leaders, we the journal- ism students, dedicate this book of memories. Representing ninth graders as Spirit Royalty '6'7 are Karen Parsons and Greg Jones. Greg, Sports King, crowned Lynn Nations as his Sports Queen in a night coronation between halves of the Central- ElReno football game. Mark Anderson was given the Outstanding Swimmer award offered by Putnam City High School and broke a state record in diving. Freshmen participated in band contests, chorus festivals, speech competition, talent shows, and the annual scholastic meet in Edmond, as well as 180 days of classroom study. To the Freshmen of '67 we wish happiness and good fortune in their future years. 1 1 1 '1 1 1 1 1 X51 , M X !'1,M1Xj 1 -F 1 A 1 ,J 1 '4 15 I X X1XXx 1' I, 1 1 1 1 A ry 5 1 . 1 1 . ,111 , 1X1 .1 X 1 X -XJ X X ,XX , 1 1 1 I 1 , J ' X 11 . Aids for this goal freading machines and work- ing labs, related texts, opaque and overhead projectors, record players, dictionaries, and composition booksj are available to all lan- guage arts teachers. Because the English language is built from many , Latin, French and Spanish are included in the Taught basics of communication. Study programs in the appreciation of other lands and their form of communicating are included. Practice comes in the speech classes where students perform on the stage or compete in con- tests with other schools. Here they learn to appreciate listening. Meeting the challenges of science discoveries, and at the same time reviewing past theories is the aim of the science de- partment. Lab experience and equipment for life science and physics aid this study. Social Studies is divided into three areas: geography, seventh grade, American History, eighth, and Oklahoma History and Civics, ninth. The members are constantly busy earning these points by room monitoring, checking roll, doing hall duty, or cafeteria duty. They may be in Projection Club, Library Club: they may type, check papers and clean rooms. At the end of each year members receive certificates of honor in the Award's Assembly, and they have a free day to either attend a movie or go to Springlake. Purchasing a Victory Banner for the trophy case before games also helped to arouse allegiance. The officers and committee members sold booster badges, made victory signs for the halls and organized two pep assemblies. The cheerleaders attended the annual cheerleading clinic held in Norman. The four sections of the pep club, officers, cheerleaders, committee members and club members make up the whole of the club. Sponsors, Mrs. Patti West, Miss Carolyn Coley and Mrs. Gerry Harris help keep the club organized. Eighth Grade Pep Club: Top Row, T. Lankford, A. Travis, N. Aldredge, K. Labell, K. Rose. P. Morse, K. Journalism, Projection Club J-Students, Obtaining facts on 1300 students, finishing stories, and meeting deadlines isn't easy, but 26 J-students tried this year. Publishing a monthly newspaper and organizing a yearbook requires many hours of hard work consisting of writing, proofreading, typing and , in general, being able to work and produce to- gether. Journalists had their annual Christmas Room Decorating Contest in December, Spirit Roy- alty election in January, and 89'ers Day Costume Award in April. Not connected with the J-class, is the Projec- tion club organized to gain service points. They earn them by running projectors daily, splicing film, and taking care of the varied equipment in the AV room. Mr. Harry Lamb leads the club. Projection Club: Top Row, T. Nelson, M. First game of the year with Kerr at Del City showed a need for more practice as the score was 13 to 7. With a strong armed quart- erback Edmond proved hard to beat, but Wildcats rallied and won 24 to l9. QSRXHYY Western Oaks, Hefner, and Monroney piled up 62 points to our 6. Hard fought wins over Jarman C28 to 63 and El Reno Q8-OJ boosted 'Vim spirit and ended the season with a definite improvement shown. RWM, Outstanding players this year were Greg Jones, quarterback: Bill Schuman, tackle: Mike Storozyszyn, haliback: Bob Witten, center: Head Coach Dean Wild Dicky Terrel, halfbacks Charles Jolley, end. Wildcats threatened to score against the Western Oaks Warriors, but were good sports when they lost l8-O. Injury Riddles Matmen , , A , , Coach Kenneth Madden Due to injuries and other interferences the boys did not wrestle up to their capacity, stated Coach Madden concern- ing Central's 1966-67 wrestling season. The wrestlers had a 4-8-l in duel matches this year. They defeated Western Oaks 27-15, and 40-6, Northwest Classen 27-23, and Jarmon 27-24. They also tied Norman West 21-21. Coach Madden felt that David Hamil and Greg Jones con- tributed most to the team, he also said Greg Jones, Mike Storozyszyn, Bob Witten, Brooks 1-lall, and Dickie Terrell carried the biggest load during the season. Dickie Terrell, Greg Jones, and Bob Witten were missed during a portion of the year because of injuries. One point will be added to Brooks Hall's score if he breaks away from Hefner's heavyweight. Roundballer-S End With 9-1 Season Wildcats went out to avenge a winless record from last year with a 9-12 record. The season ran with a 4-5-33 victory over Carl Albert, two straightdefeats to Edmond, and Western Oaks, a comeback of three straight wins over Kerr, Monroney fleague leaderj, and El Reno. They were consolation champs in the St, Mary's tournament, lost to Jefferson, 35-34, and won two victories over St. Mary's, and Capitol Hill. The Wildcats then won a home game thriller from Edmond 5l-47. ln the Western Oak's Tournament, Central de- feated its first opponent, Kerr, lost the next two semi-final games to Western Oaks, and to the Bullpups of Edmond. Finding no remedy for their Western Oak's defeat, the Wildcats lost for the third time to the Warrior's quintet. They couldn't get back into their winning pace, and lost to Monroney. Drawing Kerr as their first opponent in the Monroney tournament, they lost 44-28. Hefner was victorious, and gave the Wildcats their sixth straight loss. They proceeded to fall before Monroney and El Reno before winning an easy one over Carl Albert 55-29, and ending their season finale to Kerr. . Now as the pieces 'fall into place we feel we have captured life at Central in yearbook form. if the many people who have helped in the 1' ,duction of this book we think Mrs. Wendy rhnson deserves the most recognition and we ,vould like to give our personal thanks for her patience and untiring enthusiasm. Our most desired wish is that, by reading the 1967 Wildcat, you can clearly visualize Central Jr. High, its surface, its inside story, its purpose.
