SCHOOL BOARD Community participation builds exemplary school system Decisions and administrative policy are primary concerns of the Putnam Citi' School Board. The force which actually governs a district having forty-seven square miles is elected by the voters of the district in staggered sequence, bringing a new member to the board each year for a five-year term. September 21, 1965 saw the passage of a 51,600,000 bond issue proposed by the board for the district expansion. The allocations will be used to build Westerii Oaks Senior High School and purchase sites for two additional elementary schools. One of the oldest buildings of the system, Central Iunior High School, will receive funds for modernization of its facilities. Nlonthli' meetings of the board provide the starting point for district moves. The interest and action of civic-minded individuals has made Putnam City able to meet the demands of a growing system. MR. LEU MAYFIELD and his associates gather for their monthly meetings. As they get dovvn to brass tacks plans are made for the upcoming events. 18
