r Many years of education and experience qualify Mr. D. D. Kirkland for the very difficult, and often unheralded, task before him-that of co-ordinating the education of eight thousand young people. Al- though Mr. Kirkland has many subordinates who relieve him of numerous duties, the final responsibility lies with him. The highschool includes but a portion of his respon- sibilities, but he is ever aware of our needs and prob- lems. The student body realizes this and respects the great amount of effort put forth by Mr. Kirkland to make Putnam City High School a worthy educational institution. Through his twelve years as our Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Kirkland has seen Putnam City grow- academically, athletically, and physically - and he has grown with us. Today he is recognized as one of the outstanding administrators in Oklahoma. The office of assistant superintendent has been very capable of the many responsibilities and duties that appointed to this position, he has proven himself cappable of the many responsibilities and duties that the iob entails. He is the co-ordinator of all the Putnam City cafeterias and works very closely with the building and grounds crew. Previously he taught at the highschool, and was for two years principal of the intermediate grades and director of transportation. We wish to congratulate Mr. Caviness on his new appointment and know that he will perform his duties with competence. 3.- 5 Q

New to the position of assistant principal is Mr, B. J. Nichols. He has proved valuable while working with Mr. Mayfield in the administration of the school's program, and has gained the respect and friendship of the student body. Although fairly new to Putnam City School system, he has become an important part of our traditionally progressive educational system and his efficiency has been fully appreciated by the faculty and the students. Putnam City High School has made outstanding prog- ress under the supervision and direction of Mr. Leo Mayfield. His many years of service have been of great benefit, not only to the school but to the com- munity as well. His understanding of the many small problems as well as larger ones has helped to keep the school running smoothly through the years. The school's rapid progress has found Mr. Mayfield's time and attention in almost constant demand. How- ever this does not seem to effect his good nature and efficiency. The students are proud of the administration's interest concerning school events. Mr. Mayfield has proved to be a leader in this as is shown by his active participation in all school functions. All in all Putnam City High School is proud of its principal who has played a great part in keeping our school an example of progress and prosperity.
