Here Mr. D. D. Kirkland and Fred Hitzer are meeting for the first time in the Superintendenfs e office. What will an American school be like? Will the kids accept me? A million questions like these must have been in Freddie's mind when he was walking into our school for the first time. -..tv g, ,e'.- I K1-..,,,kJ.:, u -X , , . -1-me -G

Jw X De cl ic ctfzfon We of the annual staff this year have chosen to honor our Superintendent Mr. D. D. Kirkland by dedicating the 1953 Treasure Chest to him. Mr. Kirkland is finishing his third year as superintendent here. He came to Putnam City High School the same year our 1953 Senior class entered its halls and he has been an inspiration to them and to the other students by his continuous efforts to improve our school. Some of the accomplishments since his arrival are: Our school has been admitted to the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Collegesg A new junior high school has been erect- ed and plans are now underway to modernize the Arnett building and a new eight room addition is to be added to the primarv buildingg the cafeteria is to be enlarged and agriculture is to be added to our curriculumg much additional ground has been added to our school. Mr. Kirkland has brought to us a deep' background of school administration. He has served as president of the Oklahoma Education Association, president of the State School Administrators, and president of Teachers Retirement Board for four years. He is a tireless worker for our school. It is with many wishes to him for continued success that we dedicate this annual.
