Without your sympathy and understanding our dreams, hopes and ambitions for this annual would not have materialized. May the years to come crown your efforts with God's choicest blessings and graces and may the Daughters of the Holy Ghost continue to reap and harvest a multitude of souls under your excellent direction! 13 Sdzfarml W lVe me fl'0.U'6d me zany ibe ocean lies before III. Nl' We have crossed the by! Our four years of high school have come to an end. Behind us the calm waters are gently closing over the ripples left in our wake. Before us lie the uncertain waters of the ocean of life. How romantic it sounds! As we face the world after our years at P. C. A. we wonder if we can weather the storms often to be encountered on a voyage such as ours. To us, as to His Apostles, Our Lord says Be not afraid. We are putting out to sea during the Marian Year. Surely Our Guide will not fail us. Always unwavering, that Star sends forth her light to all ships in need of succor. Our ships have been made ready. Our dear teachers, the Daughters of the Holy Ghost, and our beloved chaplain, Father Laurion, have cared for them, helping us to chart our course by their prayers, counsels, good example, and their unfailing confidence in us. The rest is up to us. All is in readiness for a successful journey. The course has been charted, the ships are all sturdy and able to withstand the rigors of the ocean. Now that we have crossed that milestone in our life there is no return. Someday, may the fragile bark of our immortal soul glide slowly from the Channel of Salvation and the River of Sacraments, right into the boundless ocean of God's eternal love! Mary, Star of the Sea, help your little navigators realize this one fervent desire. nil' MOTHER ST. XY'e immediately joined our new bishop, the Most Reverend Bernard Flanagan, in adopting the motto Respice Stellamf' and later on in the school year we joyfully welcomed him into our midst. It was natural for us, the seniors, to let our thoughts wander just a little to the day when we would be overjoyed to welcome our bishop once more to our academy. His Excellency seemed to think along the same channels, and we listened attentively as he spoke of our Commencement Exercises. We came to realize that ours has been a singular privilege, that of being the graduating class of the Marian Year. Witli the words ot' our well-loved Bishop in our minds, we endeavored throughout the Marian Year to become more Mary-conscious, more Mary-like. We strove always to look up to the Star, to call upon Mary. We took heed of Bishop Flanagans advice to invoke her help and intercession for our needs, and Our Lady heard our humble supplications. She granted us a happy, fruitful senior year together at the dearest ot' all academies. 'A 1 Q , I H ut.-. -- , The Big Day -1954 My dearest Mom and Dad, Four years ago-back in the golden September of 1950-dear parents, you left us with tear-filled eyes in the loving care of the good Sisters here at dear old P.C.A. We were but timid freshmen then and the first year found us with a variety of emotions to' contend with, fear perhaps, but also excitement and anticipation. The unknown mysteries gradually unrolled before our eyes and with every passing activity we found ourselves looking forward to four wonderful years. June came and we witnessed for the first time the joy and sorrow of a Commencement Day at dear old P.C.A.-we saw our seniors say good-bye and leave. We returned to school to find that our sophomore year passed as quickly as our first year and before we could realize it, we were back to begin our big year, our junior year. Ah, yes, that was a memorable one! Halloween Party, May Queen, junior-Senior Banquet, and, finally, the Daisy Chain when the Class of '53 entrusted their caps and gowns to us. The bright morning of September 16, 1953 found us all together in the senior home- room and there, with the thought In Unity There Is Strength, we launched into our fourth and last year together here at P.C.A. We stood wondering and hoping that we would live up to the expectations of those about us. However, after having placed all our confidence in The Star of the Sea, we set forth with new and firm convictions. One by one we saw our dreams being fulfilled until there remained but one-the greatest one, the one we had always looked and longed for-Commencement. Please forgive our wandering off, dear parents, but before we wrote this letter, we opened our book of memories and one by one we turned the pages until we reached this day. Today more than ever before, dearest Mom and Dad, we realize how very much we owe to you. For these precious memories, for the wonderful bonds of true friendship which have been established, for everything we are and hope to be-we are indebted to you. It is because of God's kindness and your love, sacrifice and unselfish interest that we, today, are able to close the doors of our beloved and cherished P.C.A. feeling better equipped to travel on 1ife's sea because of the sound Catholic training we have received. Words cannot express the love and gratitude which fills our hearts today, our graduation day. Since words are too futile, dearest Mom and Dad, to express our deep affection for you, this morning we knelt together at Holy Mass and lifted our hearts to God and to Him alone we whispered our wishes for you, Thank you, dear parents, thank you from the depth of our hearts. Your loving and grateful daughters, THE CLASS OF '54 if ...ff 1 4 -J - , f To Al-an-sn f Nate af or e Gratitude We, THE CLASS OF 1954, would like to offer our sincere thanks: TO REVEREND FATHER LAURION, for the spiritual assistance which often made a dark hour take on new light, TO THE REVEREND MOTHERS, for their understanding and guidance, TO THE SISTERS OF VILLA ST.
