The Purdue men's tennis team finished another dismal season with a 7-19 record. The netters' Big Ten record was even more disheartening, winning only one dual meet, while losing eight. But that one victory, against Iowa, marked the first time the Boilers have conquered a Big Ten foe in four years. Also, the Boilers finished in the cellar in the Big Ten Championships. First year coach Ron MacVittie had two plavers with winning records. No. 6 singles t)an O'Connell garnered a 16-10 mark and No. 5 starter Felix Amaya had a 13-11 record. Photo by 8. Sthmiu ■ WOMEN’S BASKETBALL LOOKING TO IMPROVE After a disappointing 4-18 season last year, nead coach Ruth Jones' women's basketball team expects much improvement in the 1980-81 season. This year's team is headed by three players who started every game last season. Leading the way is sophomore forward Carol Emanual, last year's MVP. The other returning starters are senior forward Laura Newcomb and guard Deb Funk-houser. Another factor that will improve the team is the welcome addition of three promising freshmen and one transfer. So, experienced returnee's, enthusiastic freshmen, and an easier schedule should insure that the 1980-81 women's basketball will have more success than last season. A. After a slow start, the team went on to post its two wins in the final matches of the season against Miami and Eastern Kentucky. I think the girls played well all season, commented Coach Nancy Janco.
