During the war the staff' has worked on war contracts under the direction of the Office of' Scientific Development and Research. Now those people who devoted time to war research are hurrying to complete the army contracts so that they may return to peacetime projects. VVork will be continued along the lines of tele- vision, high voltage, electronics, and electric machine research. The Alternating Current Calculating Labor- atory has particularly felt the effects of and need for doing peacetime work. Requests for help in solving local power problems have come in from power systems all over the nation, and workers are intensifying their efforts to aid in solving these problems. . ,l 15 o 1 ..,:,LL,f:v-.yy fig- f I Samir: - . . . , ' Z!.u.b.i.e.Qx..a.......-.-.,,..,.. , ....-,-

Efemfzwzl How the Electrical Engineering School can change its program from a wartime to a peace- time basis as quickly and effectively as possible is a problem of paramount importance to Pro- fessor D. D. Ewing, head of the Electrical Engineering School, and his associates. For the past two and one-half years the school has been concerned primarily with training the Army, Navy, and Marine units on campus and concentrating on Army contracts. One year ago the Electrical Engineering School was run entirely by the V-12 schedule. Now only sixth, seventh, and eighth semester Marines and Y-12's remain. The senior courses will continue for these men until they leave school, but the other V-I2 courses are to be closed. Plans are under- way to revise the V-12 course to meet the needs of the new R.O.T.C. curriculum which will eventually be converted to a completely civilian schedule.
