Ross, calls 'home ', Graduating with honors from the school of Elecf trical Engineering in 1893, Dave Ross conceived the idea ot the Ross stearing gear, Turning business man, he has since been the mentor ol the Ross Gear and Tool Company. ln 1921, he was appointed to the Board of Trustees of Purduefin 1927, advanced to the presidency of that body. 1-le conceived the idea ol a recreational field and Ross-Ade Stadium stands as a memorial to his tore- was DAVID E ROSS President ol the Board of Triis sight and generosity. No, simply very fortunate for 7,000 Pur- due students. Every three years, the governor of ln- diana selects six outstanding citizens to serve on the Purdue Board of Trustees-the remaining three mem- bers are elected by the Alumni Association to make up the balance. Veterans in experience, capability, and responsi- bility, these trustees, together with President Elliott, constitute the governing board of the University- are given the full power of conferring degrees, ap- pointing faculty members, and making all major de- cisions. At least four times a year, in scheduled busi- ness meetings, the trustees let the axe fall on prob- lems vital to Purdue. ln these concentrated two day sessions, Purdues future is planned. Prescribing grants for building contracts and laying out the school of tomorrow are typical of the important is- sues the trustees face and decide. Purdue has a fine campus, Purdue is justly proud and thankful for these men and women who, together with President Elliott, are making our university what it is today.
