THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES Heading clockwise around the table Elliott Stewart Wheeler Thompson Stuart Mclflale 1-lockema Hughel Ross Hanley Sturm Hillenbrand Noel 26 Appointment for nine-eight men and a womanl Mysterious? No, simply very fortunate for 7,000 Pur- due students. Every three years, the governor of ln- diana selects six outstanding citizens to serve on the Purdue Board of Trustees-the remaining three mem- bers are elected by the Alumni Association to make up the balance. Veterans in experience, capability, and responsi- bility, these trustees, together with President Elliott, constitute the governing board of the University- are given the full power of conferring degrees, ap- pointing faculty members, and making all major de- cisions. At least four times a year, in scheduled busi- ness meetings, the trustees let the axe fall on prob- lems vital to Purdue. ln these concentrated two day sessions, Purdues future is planned. Prescribing grants for building contracts and laying out the school of tomorrow are typical of the important is- sues the trustees face and decide. Purdue has a fine campus, Purdue is justly proud and thankful for these men and women who, together with President Elliott, are making our university what it is today.
