wilful ii Q6 GWB Even as in ancient myth- ology, I-lephaestus, or Vulcan, the father of the engineering sciences, aided and served the gods, so today the engineer and the scientist serve man- kind. The reader will find that in this book the various activi- ties of the University have been translated into activities of the Grecian gods, especially l-lephaestus. Although the gods of yesterday are the myths of today, they still rep- resent dominant ideals and activities of mankind. The Grecian theme of this Debris serves to point out the fact that the work of Purdue men of today is a continuation of the work of the ancient gods. V' 1'
