Lookiii : back over the year, it is with pleasure we note the progress and i ood fortune that has befallen our alma mater durin.g the college year. The faculty has been strengthened, the facilities of the University have been increased, the number of students has been the largest in the histor - of the rni -ersit -. Through the generosit - of Amos Hai elon the Haivelon Labora- tories are in course of construction, and when complete will be the most e. tensi e laboratories dexoted to mechanical science in the country. The legislature wa ]M ' e ailed upon to smile this ear, and opened up its heart b apjM ' opriating 550,000 for Ituildings in addition to the 530.000 maintenance i und. Athletics ha e done nuich to proclaim the vigorous condition of Purdue, far and wide. The foot-ball team achieved a series of bril- liant victories, and suffered no defeat during the entire season. Pur- due holds in trust the Lafayette Cup, b} ' -irtue of the State cham- pionship. Our sturdy eleven defeated, with heavy scores, the teams of Ann Arbor, Chicago Uni -ersit ' , Champaign and Wisconsin. Purdue contributes an elegant display for the World Columbian Exposition, consisting of specimens of work done in laboratories, illus- trations of buildings, class work and athletics, and many other things that will be of general interest. The year has been one of progress, and has opened the way for a decided improvement during next year.
