x BX Sigma Beta Chi was founded in August 1969 by five members, but by the end of the 1969-1970 academic year, membership had more than quadrupled. This club was created with the purpose of promoting quali- ties of scholarship, brotherhood, and character by providing a better social and academic environment. Activities of the fraternity included tobogan- ning, ice skating, skiers, mixers, and dances. For future plans, besides an extension of activities, the fraternity plans to apply for national affiliation. Young Republican The Young Republicans, one of several new organizations on Campus, was organized to develop all Republicans at Calumet into an “‘intelligent, aggressive and cooperative Republican group”, and to “Work for the betterment of all government”. Club members attended the Midwestern convention of the College Republicans in Indi- anapolis, and planned a trip to Great Lakes Naval Center to visit wounded G.I.’s. Club sponsor was Dr. Thomas R. Ireland, Assistant Professor of Economics. President was Donald Reichert: Vice-President, David Lloyd; Secretary, Kathy Bodak; and Treasurer, Kathy Wandrey. 117
