Coach Lester Lane of the Oklahoma Sooners, was presented with a Cadillac last night in honor of his team's 52 straight win. Secretary of State Bill Hill announced today that his new secretary if Barbara Pounds, who was recommended by President Charles Elder as being the nnst capable in Washington. Last week, construction was begun here on the sixteenth Bell-Perry Racing Cars Factory. The owners, Robert Bell and William Perry are vacationing in Australia with their lovely wives, Mrs. Jean Matthews Bell and Mrs. Pat Underwood Perry. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ewing announce the birth of quintuplets. The couple have two other children and were not expecting five more so if you can spare any diapers, blankets, etc. please send them right over. Mrs. Ewing is the former Barbara Wilson. Jim Tucker and his wife, Fern Edwards, have just set a speed record in typing. After practicing five years, they now average 72 words a minute. A new bill was passed in the LL S.Senate. The bill provides for the removal of the shrubbery at the bottom of the White House Steps. It was introduced by Senator Norma Brown of Oklahoma. Nancy Dean, concert pianist, will present a theme entitled 'Three Blind Mice' on her program next week. E.R.Thompson will remain another year in the English department at P,H.S. Richard Grisham, an eminent lawyer has successfully won a breach of promise for Pat Menard. Ed Tefertiller was the prosecuting attorney. Naughty Nancy fKennedyj and Brutal Betty fSparlinj renowned lady wrestlers, made front page headlines when they became involved with the referee, Roy Lee Criswell, but as usual the ladies came out on top. Dorothy uGiggles Colwell has a world famous uGiggling Show on Coney Island with Dale West as barker and Wayne Carberry as cashier. Does it seem strange that Miss Colwel1's show has been going in the hole? The uSantuary,n a home for disappointed women who failed to get their men, is owned and operated by Billie Faye Fox - of his old class mates at Purcell High School Eula Vee Slate and Dorothy Meeks are Uregulars.n Don Padgett is handy man for these ladies, and seems to enjoy running errands for these old maids. The man with the cold shoulder, Jim Ballard, is now owner and operator of the largest ice conpany in the United States. The business, owned and operated by Leta Faye Franks, known as uThe Latest??' really is a beauty saloon, but wouldn't you have thought it something else? I Dennie Meredith broke into headlines again this week when his Philllps 66 Oilers, won their fifth consecutive national title. Grant Frankenberg is known all over the world for his enormous butterfly col- lection which consists of 1,999,099 specimen which he has collected and mounted without aid. The true value of this collection is unknown by anyone other than Grant and his faithful guards, Bill Pittman and JZ B.Parks. Doyle West is now showing his inspiring exhibits of feminine figures at the Metropolitan Art Museum. Doyle gives all credit for his fame as a sculptor to his two models, Maurita Vandagriff and Linda Newman. Bonnie Seabourn and Pat Smith who were married during their senior year at P.H.S. did not let their marital status interfere with their careers. They have just won the Wbrld's Professional Tennis Doubles championship. Charlene Golden recently purchased the one millioneth record, uwhen the Corn is Waving, Annie Dear,n popularized by Danny Jones. Sincerely, J. Mc. l3 1 ,X M W Qx Rai? The assembly was one of the most successful ever given here, and traveled to several neigh- boring high schools. It was under the capable direction of Lee Coppick, speech teacher. 43 4 guns- Purcell's competive speech squad had another successful year in '50- '51. They received honors in debate and individual competition at Enid, Oklahoma City, Ada, Dallas, and Weatherford speech tournaments. After this annual is printed, they will compete in the state tournament in Norman, We were especially proud to become members of the National For- ensic League this year, which would enable anyone winning a state cham- pionship to enter the national tournament at Los Angeles, Calif. In one game, he ran up an individual score of 45 points. Despite his record scoring, Lester is also an excellent team man. Although he is one of the shortest forwards in the state, he makes up for his lack of height with speed, expert passing, and his famous jump shot. Lester was chosen for All-State and has been nominated for All-American. In addition to basketball, he ranks high in football, base- ball, tennis, and track. He was chosen as the first alternate for A11-State in football, after quarter-backing his team in a 9-2 season. At the state track meets of 1949 E 1950, he took second in pole-vault. Lester is admired and liked by every one in high school as well as his many fans. No one deserves the honor more than he and we are all proud of him. 58 THE SQUAD 3rd row: jackie Hayes, Pete Tippit, Don Sherman, Terry Matthews, Don Menard, Bill Mansur, Floyd Smith, and Doyle Rineharte. 2nd row: Coach Boney Metthews, Thomas Longacre, Larry Brandly, jim Sherman, Bob Harlan, Gerald Hayes, Larry Ewing, and Student Manager Joe Lee Chandler. While these questions are going through their minds and conversation the Juniors and their sponsors are working and worrying about where and how to get enough money together to put on a bigger and better banquet and prom than last year.
