Extra-curricular activities, athletics, and clubs are all fine and contribute greatly to a well rounded education but they should not eclipse the classwork which gives one his real education. On these pages, we will give a brief sketch of the different courses available to students at P.H.S. A ,ip , 5 .I I .Is Dan Newcome Nancy Jo Altman '58 ON BROADWAY The senior class presented 58 on Broadway in November as a matinee for the student body and two night performances for the general public. The show was produced under the superb direction of Nancy Jo Altman and Daniel Newcome. The capable faculty advisors were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Philliber. The senior class took the audience on a two hour tour of Broadway's hit shows. Budd Drummond, the lively Master of Ceremonies, guided the audience along the Great White Way. A musical scene from Oklahoma started the show off with a sparkle. Anything You Can Do brought pleasant memories of Annie Get Your Gun. . No Time for Sergeantsn was a comical production of life in the Army. . . The introduction of Cinderella gave a nice twist to the traditional ballroom scene. . Hernando's Hideway took the audience to a secluded night club . . . Getting To Know You was a charming and beautiful scene from The King and I . . On the Street Where You Live was a scene taken from the hit My Fair Lady . .. The famous girls kick line from the production Con Can added spice to the show. . The girls' quintet and the boys' ensemble gave musical charm. The audience was diverted during changes of scenery by a Romeo and Juliet skit, a songster, and a comedy song routine. The final scene featured the entire cast singing Give My Regards to Broadway. The audience ioined in singing the Alma Mater. The proceeds of the production, which amounted to 51,470 were presented to the Margaret C. Boles Foundation by the senior class president, Don Allenbaugh. This amount represents the largest donation yet given to the Boles Foundation by a graduating class. During the past year, its red and white uniforms flashed by in the Halloween parades,Memorial Day parade, and various other local activities. The band's regular activities include playing at football games, participating in pep sessions and the annual band concert. This worthy organization was also represented,in the yearly county, district, and state band events. Money-raising projects this term included sale of peanuts and the concession stands at the home games. ln cooperation with the cheer- leaders, the band has contributed several snappy tunes to our collection of cheers. Through these endeavors this years bcnd has made us more aware of the spirit and tradition of our school. Jia-4 1572.4 Any Thespian production guarantees excellent entertainment for an assembly program. This year's productions kept up this high standard. The first one-act play, Who Killed Ann Gage? , a mystery about a wealthy old woman's death, was under the able direction of Nora Fackiner. Sweet? Sixteen , a story of a mother and an older sister's plot to uncreep teenage brother, was directed by Kay Johnson and Judy Fish. The major production of the year was the three-act play, Maureen Daly's Seventeenth Summer presented April 9 and ll. This story of an interlude between high school and college met with immediate success. The co-directors were Becky Feicht and Jim Elder. The Thespian Society was organized in T929 by Miss Margaret C. Boles. Each year the outstanding senior member of the Thespian Society is presented the Thespian award on Class Day. Points given for club service are the basis ofthe award. Rhodes. The Punxs'y Chucks, facing a very tough schedule, turned in a very good season. The Chucks boasted a record of five wins, three losses, and one tie under the helm of Joe Cullen, the new head coach. Some of the thrilling games were: LAURA LAMAR Punxs'y's first win of the season was over Laura Lamar. After the first half Laura Lamar folded and Punxs'y seized the ball to win 20-7. EBENSBURG Playing the first half on a rain- soaked field, the Chucks spotted the Red Devils a 12-O lead. But in the second half of the game the Punxs'y boys charged into the lead to win 12- 13. CURWENSVILLE Sparked by the running of Lynch and Read, the Golden Tide ran up a score of 13-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Chucks again came through with a stunning victory, out- charging and out hitting the Curwens- ville line. The final score was 19-13. CLE ARFIELD The Bisons started off with a bang. After five minutes of the first quarter, they were leading 13-O. Punxs'y made it 13-6 at half time and went on to win by a score of 26-13. BRADFORD Punxs'y's hope of an undefeated season was shot. The Bradfors Owls handed the Chucks a 25- 24 defeat. DuBOlS After playing a fair first half, Punxs'y faltered and lost 26-12. Rodgers The group in charge of producing our yearbook, the Mirror, is known as the Mirror Board. It is composed of sophomores, iuniors, and seniors chosen by the staff members of the previous year. This group is under the highly efficient leadership of Miss Miriam Cokely, faculty advisor. Each year the staff is headed by co-editors chosen by the graduating seniors of the previous year's staff. This year the Co-editors were Kay Bailey and Ron Shumaker. Mr. Thomas Wilson advised the business staff and the photographers were Mr. Carl Van Dyke and Mr. William Rose. This year's Mirror is the product of a new approach in publication and includes several changes. Most noticeable among these is the introductory section which spotlights the various aspects of scholastic life.
