HARRICK COACH, AND INSTRUCTOR IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION THE MIRROR F ive THE MIRROR ' A Tribute lVith the end of this school yea.r We pupils and teachers of Punxsutawney High School lose one of our most respected friends, our superintendent, Mr. Frank S. Jackson. His education at Mansfield State Normal School, Grove City College, and' Columbia University equipped him ably for leadership in educational activities. His constant service to the community has been noteworthy. The Y. M. C. A., the Public Library, the 'Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, the Presbyterian Church, and other organizations can all affirm his faithful devotion to the cause of good citizenship. Just thirty years ago Mr. Jackson came to the Punxsn- ta.wney Public Schools. In that time the underlying aim in all that he undertook was to improve conditions as he found them. This year because of his tireless efforts the realization of his lifelong dream was attained. Our new bailding speaks for itself. We pupils will long remember his splendid enthusia.sm for all our interests. NVhat would a pep xmeetingi' havebeen without Mr. Jaekson's talk? Because we believed in the sin- cerity of his interest, his feeling was contagious. We teachers Will miss his kindly criticism, his understand- ing, his encouragement toward the highest educational ideals. First of all, and always, he was an educator. Mr. Jackson has done things intelligently and has accom- plished results which have brought him personal satisfaction, as Well as distinction in the educational field, and the respect of all. Realizing his capacity for living, we know that his life in the future will be as full as during the period of his work for us. But do not forget, he is in a way a business man. He helps his father with the Work at the garage. Pezel likes very much to drive an automobile, and out of school hours, we usually ind him behind the wheel of one of the garage cars. Pezil is a jolly and good natured person. He believes in having lots of fun. Merle usually manages to get a front seat, where he will have the best opportunity to give his opinion. Pezil, as yet, is undecided what he will do in the future. She wrote and directed Bugs last year and took part this year in the high school play. Next year she plans to enter the training school at the Roosevelt Hospital. We wish her all the luck in the world. Blair Lloyd Armstrong General Course A. A., 3, 4, Ir. Red Cross, 3, 4, Science Club, 4. Silence sweeter is than words. Blair does not make himself conspicuous by talking a great deal in classes. In fact, his chief aversion is any kind of oral report. But put him with acquaintances, and you find, under his silence, a very agreeable felow with a liking for the out-of-doors. Instead of seeking for knowledge out of books, in his idle m-oments, he learns first-hand in- formation from nature, in hunting, fishing, and swimming. His liking for softball also shows that Blair likes the association of other fellows. Blair, with his Customary way of going into things leisurely, will not enter business college until he has worked a year. llffay he find sat- isfaction on whatever road he chooses to follow! ' Ray Louis Armstrong General Course A. A., 3, 45 Red Cross, 1, 2, 3, 4g Science Club, 4, Interclass Basketball, 4. Our thoughts and conduct are our own. In Ray, we have the tall, silent man. When we see his height, and deep-set eyes, We get an impression of latent power. His slowness of reply bears out this impression of deliberation before expression. Al- though he does not speak often in his classes, he knows the correct an- swers. Ray's long strides as he walks picturesquely tell of his liking for hiking over the hills, hunting, or iinding a likely-looking fishing stream. Baseball and softball are his two favorite games. In the future, about which he is undecided, Ray believes he would like to attend some aviation school. Good luck, Ray! Eleven Red Cross, 1, 2, 3, 4g A. She is quiet and unassuming. However, she is not so quiet when one know her more intimately. Ethel's particular interest in school is Biology. From what we have heard, she receives very good grades in that particular subject. Along with her particular interest for Biology, she likes to take an active part in sports and drawing. Her particular sports are swimming and hiking. Ethel's plans for the future are indefinite, but with her splendid knowledge of Biology, we are sure that she will continue in that field. The class of '38 joins in wishing her the best of luck for future success. John is going to leave a large vacancy in the school on the Harrick l eleven. Eleanor Suzanne Bender ' Commercial Course Commercial Club, 4, Red Cross, 3, 4, A., 3, 4. M ay you live all the days of your life. Eleanor came to us from DuBois last year. Since she came here, she has made quite a place for herself among her friends. Around school she is easily identified by her bangs and her smiling, gay ex- pression. She is usually heard talking over the latest development in the orchestra , how practice went, the new pieces, or the latest engage- ments it has. From the sound of it, one would almost suppose that the orchestra was the greatest interest of her life. Eleanor's plans for the future center around music. Judging from the time she spends on it, the orchestra will become very popular. Best wishes to our little girl from DuBois from the class of '38, Fourteen Anna Bennett Commercial' Course Ir. She is always kind and generous with those around her and, as a result, has many friends. Although Anna is rather quiet and demure, she is a very pleasant com- panion. Anna is capable and willing to help Wherever she is able. One is usually impressed by Anna's warm brown eyes. They are quite the envy of many of her fellow classmates. Anna tells us she would like to continue her commercial work. We know she will make some one an excellent secretary. Best of luck, Anna! l THE Mrnnon Roy Ross Bickley General Course A. Herk, to everyone, is one of our Cheerleaders who helped cheer our teams to many victories this year, But to the gang, Herk is a mirth leader, who has led so many of our parties to successful climaxes. Aside from this rather strong attraction for parties, however, Herk is a rabid hiking fan. And we are not disclosing any deep secrets when we say that his companions on these jaunts have been girls and boys. To Herk nothing is quite the success it could be if there is not a quantity of fudge around. His motto is, What is life without fudge, and me eating it. Au honest man, close buttoned to the drain. Henry is one of the taller Seniors who breaks his silence with a deep, very deep, bass voice, a voice that he uses to good advantage in the Boys' Glee Club. Hen'l is an ardent sport fan, and the contest that is played without his presence is a rare one. We might add that he is the object of hidden admiration of those girls who like the strong and silent type. Henry has not named the school to which he will go, but when the choice is made, We feel sure that his future vocation will find an opening for him. Good luck, Hen, Sixteen Thomas Calabrese General Course A. A., 3, 4. In ourselves our fortune lies, Life is what we 'make it.
