T H E M I R R O R MARCUS C. GOURLEY A Red English Course I will not dream in vain rlespairg The steps of progress wait for me. One generally expects a fiery temper when he sees a shock of red hair. But it is not true of lNfIarcus, for he is a very quiet boy. He has a particular aversion to the girls, and likes boys best. As years go on, we are sure Marcus will overcome his bashfulness. Marcus is always ready to have a good time and to enjoy himself. He has won many friends during his life at P. H. S. Good-natured, generous, and ready to help you, is lNIarcus. After leaving school, Marcus intends to take up work in the business world. We are confident such a person as hlarcus will soon win his way. S. SUTTON HAMILTON Chibbycabus , Classical Course Four Minute Speaker, '18 Pres. Literary Society, '18 al: it X tk Witlt glory burning Having won his reward, returning once more The soldier, alert and proud in bearing. Sometimes we can tell you what's in a name, but we don't know what's in Chibbycabus. However, we can tell you that Chibb is the nickname for a classmate who has done much to add to the honor of the class of '19, He enlisted in U. S. Army when Uncle Sam was most in need of brave men, just about a month before the close of school last year. He returned to us about two months ago, and took up the work just where he left it last year. Before we go any further, we will stop here and say Thanks 'Clubbye' er-a-Sutton. Sutton is going to the University of Pennsylvania next fall, where he will add to his life, not only knowledge, but also a great host of friends. SLEILA GAHAGEN LSLCCH3 English Course And in ,her slender shape are seen Hint and promise of stately tmienf' A dreamy look in Leila's eye, a bit of absent mindedness, a piece of paper and a pencil-what? Why a story, of course, and a very good one at that. Some time, in the days to come, we expect to see a new novel written by Leila, which will startle the whole world. Leila is a devotee of dreams, yet she works with a will. She is, as yet, undecided as to what she will do after leaving school, but whatever it may be we all hope her career will bring to her the fulfillment of her fondest dreams.

THE MIRROR 23 EDWARD FRIEDMAN Pinky Classical and Scientific Fourses High School Play, '19 .Xss't Virculation Manager of Mirror, '19 When SIHIII' !H'l'1l!l'IlI' quality Dnth so j1a.v.s'c'ss a man that it doth zlrau' I .-ill his effects, his sf11'rz't.s' and his paiucm In their COIZT'I'l'fl'0llS,' all to run one way This may be truly said to bc a Humor. Pinky seems to have solved the problen' of perpetual motion for he is never still an instant. He is either collecting Literary Digest money or hunting some of his property that someone has taken. If someone should take one of his test tubes in the Lab., he will chase around till he finds it, then he will frown for a minute upon the guilty one and then conclude by telling the offender to borrow it when- ever he needs it. Such is Pinky Ed is undecided about his future career but we hope that he proves as much a blessing to the world as he has been to us. EVA LILLIAN FRIEDMAN Eve English Course Glee Club, '16, '17, '18, '19 For I, myself with these have grown To somethirzg greater than before. Eva is really a worth while girl. VVe choose that quotation for Eva because she is ambitious beyond all measure. And you can just depend on it, Eva will reach whatever goal she sets herself for VVhen she says she will, she will And you may depend on it When she says she won't, she won't And there's an end on it. Eva is an accomplished pianist. She does not tolerate rag-time, but you should hear her rendition of classical music. It is there that she excels. Eva is not sure what she will do after graduation, but she wants to go into business with her father. If her father wants to increase his profits, we advise him to avail himself of his ambitious daughter's aid. GLADYS GEORGE George English Course Orchestra, '16, '17, '18, '19 Glee Club, '16, '17, '18, '19 Junior Red Cross Luncheon Committee, '18 Ohf thou art fairer than the eveizing air, Clad in the beauty of a tlzousrznrl stars. This young maiden who greets you with her picture is one of the best all-around girls in our class. She was never known to miss a party, picnic, a social function of any kind. But she likes to enjoy herself better than she likes to study. Her motto is: Pleasure before work. Gladys is a happy go-lucky, girl bubbling over with youth and merriment. She loves every member of the class and we can't help loving her for she has those great big eyes and pretty smile 'n everything. Gladys is going to school next year. VVe are positive that she will cultivate friends wher- ever she goes.

No, you did not, for every time you see her she is doing something worth while. Sometimes she will be in despair, but that state soon disappears, and the sun will be shining again for her. Parties seem to be in her line, for the first thing you know, you will hear Clara announce a party to which all must be sure and come. Clara also is fond of a certain college, but we do not blame her for that. Good-natured and kind to all she has found a place in the hearts of her classmates. Clara expects to start on a business career soon, and we know that success will be hers. LLOYD P. JORDAN ,lurde Scientific Course Basket Ball, '16, '17, '18, '19 Captain and llanager of Basketball' Team, '18, '19 High School Play, '18 Assistant Circulation Manager of 3Iirror, '17 Vice President of Athletic Association, '19 'H-1 hardy ,frauzeg a harzlier spirit, Here, friends. See the strong, determined look in his face. It tells of trophies won, of basketball games won, of friends won. Jurde is one of the merriest fellows in the class, Cand that's say- ing somethingb. Did you ever hear him tell a tragedy, which he makes up as he goes along? Wiell, if you didn't you missed something. These jolly traits, added to his good school spirit, and his extraordinary athletic work, make us feel glad that we won't be in P. H. S. when Lloyd is gone. Jurde is going to college next year-where, he does not know as yet, but we know that that college will win, not only the championship in basketball but an all-around fellow who can't be beat. THOMASROLANDJORDAN Tom English Course High School Play, '19 lfember A. A. Give us the lcul wlzosc happy life Is one perpetzml grin. VVhen we remember what a small Freshman Tom was, we look with surprise and respect at the young man who is Thomas Jordan, Senior. VVe are glad that Tom has not changed except in physical statute. Tom's desire to question everything has pleased us many times. Tom simply wouldn't be himself if he didn't ask questions. Then too. Tom is a bit of a cynic. XYhen he hears of the extravagance and follies of mortals in this day and age, he is wont to express his disgust at such conduct. in one expression, Hully Gee! XYe would have you know Tom is an ex- ceptional youth, inasmuch as we have never heard of his being worried over or seen him with any member of the fair sex. Tom is uncertain as to what he will do after graduation. XYQ hope he will make a choice that will bring him the best in life. 'N as 1 as
