URBAN G. WILLIS Mr. Willis, our principal, was barn in Pittsfield, Maine. I-Ie prepared for college at Maine Central Institute, graduating in 1896. I'Ie attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, graduated in 1900, and received his master's degree in 1910. Mr. Willis was always interested in debating, and participated in many athletic sports. I Ie and his partner won the New England inter-collegiate tennis cham- pionship in 1900 at the Longwood Club in Boston. Mr. Willis taught in private schools in Boston and Chicago, and was private tutor in the family ofthe late I'Ion. Franlc O. Lowden for nine years. When Pullman Tech. opened in 1915, Mr. Willis was Dean. August 97, 1917, he enlisted in the United States Army, and rose to the ranle of captain. In the 335th Infantry, he was adjutant of the regiment, and later commander of Company C in this country and in France. Mr. Willis returned to America late in 1919, and was elected principal of Pull- man Tech., which position he has held ever since. Mr. Willis married Aimee Rodiclc of Bar I-Iarbor, Maine, and they have one daughter, Dorothy, who graduated from the University of Chicago, and married a classmate, Felix Caruso. Mr. and Mrs. Willis have three grandchildren. Mr. Willis' hobbies Ae contract bridge, and collecting sword canes. W jr 6 . I ff A .mtywww if uf- 231

I WILLIAM C. BRUBAKER Dean Brubaker was born in Peoria, IIIinois, and started his grammar schooI days in that town. I'Iis father, who had been in raiIroad work, went into Y.M.C.A. work. The Iamily moved to Topeka, Kansas, then to SpringFieIcI, Missouri, and then back to Peoria. I'Ie graduated from Peoria I-Iigh School in 1900. I'Ie attended Bradley Polytechnic Institute For two years and Armour Institute ot Technology Ior Iour years, graduating with the degree of Bachelor of Science in MechanicaI En- gineering, receiving the degree of Mechanical Engineer in 1911. I-Ie worked in the drafting room of the Pullman Company Irom 19C6 to 1909 and then had charge of the Iempletdepartment up to the IaII of 191 4. In May of1915, he came to Pullman Tech. with the title of Engineer. I-Ie became dean in 1919, I'Ie was married in 1915 and has two chiIdren, both married: a daughter Iiving in CIeveIand, and a son in I-Iomewood. The Iatter taught in the Machine Shop here under Mr. I:iIewicz Ior two years just beIore the war. Mr. Brubaker has a shop in his basement. I'Ie makes furniture, shelving, and other things, I'Ie is active in the IndustriaI Arts Round Table, BradIey AIumni CIub of Chicago, and the IIIinois Vocational Association. I-Ie has a patent from the Patent Olifice which was issued in 1914, and has another pending now. . ' 7
