©ebtcatton After the shower of knowledge, many reflections of guidance give rise to the grandeur of the rainbow of success and true happi- ness. We, the Oriole Staff of 1962, wish to return a segment of this joy that has been so generously shared with us to one of the most outstanding people we know. Her beams are shed in many ways ; her gifts to us are countless. As an English teacher she was considered irreplaceable. While in her present profession she has earned the highest degree of esteem. A graduate of William and Mary College, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She has also added to her store of learning with extra courses in science which she has taken at Rad- ford College, and courses at the University of North Carolina Extension and the University of Virginia Extension. In fifteen years at Pulaski High School as a teacher, a librarian, a sponsor, and as a friend, she has shown many the way to the treasure at the end of the rainbow. In this her twenty-fourth year of teaching, we should like to express our most sincere gratitude for the help which she has extended to us in such limitless ways. Thus it is with great admiration and even greater joy that we dedicate this year book to MRS. MARGARET PERDUE 5

Reflections of guidance radiate upon us from many sources. The Oriole Staff realizes this, and with such a realization we wish to pay tribute to another woman in Pulaski who has meant much to the youth here. She has served young people in various ways and in many different places. During World War I she worked in an orphanage in Fi ' ance, lending light to many less fortunate souls there. She has worked in the Pulaski County Schools and has served her community in unnumbered ways. Upon receipt of her Library degree from the University of North Carolina, she helped develop our library system in Pulaski. Since that time she has shown many treasures to us through books and through experiences of various travels that she has shared with us. Now, as a long deserved thank-you, we the Oriole Staff of 1962 wish to recognize special Recognition MRS. GRACE CARNAHAN 6
