Jazz Band Jazzes Up The School Bond director, Ed M-essing, has been port of Pueblo's staff for three years while the jazz bond hos been on offered activity for only two years. A great fan of jazz, Mess- ing started the group with deep ideo for student potential and he also ployed with the bond to keep up the enthusiasm. The auditions weren't really tough. One just had to know how to read music, be able to repeat note for note what was ployed from o different instrument, and so on. Brenda Martinez played piano and was the only girl in the band. When asked how she felt about it, she remarked that it was really fun. Altogether, there were seven in- strumentolists in the group who ployed trumpet, sox, boss guitar, and drums. Members included Ismael Arvizu, Ricky Es- quibel, James Honnebohm, Robert McKen- zie, Richard Rivera, and Croig Robillard. Pueblo's drill team was mode up of twenty-eight girls this year. In order to meet the requirements of being on the drill team each student had to pass o perfor- mance audition. The girls practiced before school, during sixth hour, and when nec- cessary after school. The purpose of this group was to enhance the appearance of the marching bond ot all football games and final home bosketboll games. Other activities the group engoged in was Bond Doy and the Rodeo parade. 17 The band takes their practice time very seriously. 25 At Bond Day on Nov, 21, the flag girls show their best. 37 Practice makes perfect as the flags brush up on routines before a game. 45 The 1951-82 flag line Is as follows. e've Gal The Beal! Las Payadores de Pueblo is Latin-American musical group that involves the students in many activities such as performing for schools, community clubs, serv- ice organizations, conventions throughout the Tucson area. To become a Payadar, one must audition. Auditions are held at the end of each year, and sometimes between semesters. Even old Payadores have to audition in order to remain in the group. Pueblo High's Desen Aires, under the direction of Yvonne Cano, has changed its images. Although they were a small group they became more competitive with other schools. There were seven solos and a duet that received a superior rating at All-Region, which took place at the U of A. The seven solos were sung by Jorge Altamirano, Marcia Carrillo, Henry Guasp, Irma Linares, Virginia Potter, Julie Valenzuela, Tino Yourgulez, and the duet consisted of Virginia Potter and Jorge Altamirano. The Desert Chanters went to Flagstaff to perform in the oth Annual NAU Madrigal Festival. Ms. Cano stated that the Madrigals worked hard and it paid off. She also added, They represented Pueblo well.
