Jazz Band Jazzes Up The School Bond director, Ed M-essing, has been port of Pueblo's staff for three years while the jazz bond hos been on offered activity for only two years. A great fan of jazz, Mess- ing started the group with deep ideo for student potential and he also ployed with the bond to keep up the enthusiasm. The auditions weren't really tough. One just had to know how to read music, be able to repeat note for note what was ployed from o different instrument, and so on. Brenda Martinez played piano and was the only girl in the band. When asked how she felt about it, she remarked that it was really fun. Altogether, there were seven in- strumentolists in the group who ployed trumpet, sox, boss guitar, and drums. Members included Ismael Arvizu, Ricky Es- quibel, James Honnebohm, Robert McKen- zie, Richard Rivera, and Croig Robillard. Pueblo's drill team was mode up of twenty-eight girls this year. In order to meet the requirements of being on the drill team each student had to pass o perfor- mance audition. The girls practiced before school, during sixth hour, and when nec- cessary after school. The purpose of this group was to enhance the appearance of the marching bond ot all football games and final home bosketboll games. Other activities the group engoged in was Bond Doy and the Rodeo parade. 17 The band takes their practice time very seriously. 25 At Bond Day on Nov, 21, the flag girls show their best. 37 Practice makes perfect as the flags brush up on routines before a game. 45 The 1951-82 flag line Is as follows.
