Golfers Increase and '81 Thinclads Send 3 lo Qfafe More golfers participated than last year, stated golf coach Niel. The most improved player for the year was Anthony Mor- alos, He played with eight struggling other new team mem- bers. Coach Niel stated that Rey GrUalva was a leader of the team who led five of his companions to the divisionals. The teams' practices were held after school ot Silverbell golf course and the matches were played at Reid Park golf course. Coach Niel felt that the golfers worked better as individuals than as a team, because their overall record was not very strong. Varsity track ended the '81 season by qualifying for state finals in three events. Senior, Dan Gibson, won the high jump with a 6'2 jump and junior Tom Thomas ran the 400 meter sprint with a 48.54 time which was the best in the state. Rose Grigsby of the varsity girls track squad also qualified in the shot- put for the state finals at the season's end. 17 Coach Niel checks a golfer at competition. 21 Tony Peralta, Jose Galindo, Carlos lslas and Rey GrUolva depart from a hard fought golf match.
