Nof Yef Warriors Buf, Varsifg Braves Pueblo's varsity football team didn't do as well as expected. By end of the season, Pueblo had placed in 5th place. Their record was 2 wins and 8 losses. This year's team worked hard and everyone had an excellent attitude, but many of ayers were inexperienced. Thirty-one of the 38 players had played in a varsity football game before. The toughest that Pueblo had to play was Sunnyside, where they lost. arriors' only two successful games were won with just two left in the games. The wins were against Palo Verde and Several of the other games were also very close. The wins due to the determination ofthe team. Coach Santa Cruz has more than once about how proud he was of his and it was very clear that the coach had pride in his team. Santa Cruz also commented that a great number of players howed much improvement throughout the season. These were Jesse Gonzalez, Joe Stoglin, Gilbert Contreras, Leo Pat Gibson, Alfred Cuestas, Art Valenzuela, and George Trophies were given to the best linemen Carl Hender- S 7 son, best offensive player Pat Gibson, best defensive player Marcel Jeanisse, most improved, Joe Stoglin, most inspirational, Ygnocio Herman, and the outstanding academic award went to Larry Starks. 17 Richard Reed attempts afield goal after Pueblo scores a touchdown, 23 Rey Duran scrambles, with help from Mark Lennox. 35 Roberto Zarate waits for signals from the sideline. 45 Coach Santa Cruz looks on, with back-up quarterback Greg Nigh, 57 The 81-82 varsity football team is: Top row, Ray Lucero, Jesse Gonzales, Leonard Salazar, Willie Austin, Pat Gibson, Marcel Jannise, Barry Morgan, James Gable. Second row is, Mark Lennox, Alfredo Lopez, Rey Obregon, Larry Starks, Ernie Pesqueira, Carlos Ortiz, Raul Predoza, Third row isp Phillip Carrasco, Ted Pesqueira, Bobby Krueger, Gilbert Huerta, Santurnino Santa Cruz, Tracy Converse, Carl Hen- derson, George Cardenas.
