The returning players were lohn Gonzales, Rene Duran, Car- los Carranza, Tony Corona, and Luis Martinez. The only sopho- more on the Varsity squad was james Rincon. The players who have the most potential to be the best players on the team are lohn Gonzales, Rene Duran, Carlos Carranza, Trini Amaya, lames Gonzales, and james Rincon, said Coach Gas- tellum at the time he was inter- viewed. The Varsity team was expected to do better this year than last year's team record of 13-10 with a 3rd place finish in the West League. The reason for this was because we have some outstand- ing regulars, and there is a good group coming from the lV's , ad- , . , M A ,ywgh W, ' ,1.:5?a9fa.fI' 'A' 43,45 ,nt . r Ni aw' ' , ded Gastellum. Our pitching corps will be stronger than last year's, stated Gastellum. Other reasons for these expectations were that the team had very posi- tive attitudes, good hitters, sound pitching, intelligent players, and a strong desire to go to state. Gas- tellum was very positive that this year's team would go to the play- offs. There were twenty regular sea- son games scheduled, of these eleven were to be played at home. The Warriors will play thirteen dif- ferent teams, but the toughest ones should be Cholla, Amphi, and Sunnyside. The reason these are the toughest teams is because they also have either many return- ing players, outstanding athletes, andfor good pitching. Gur War- riors will be able to meet that chal- lenge. -Betty Salinas , . , x, . , 4- his Yu- ' 512' at 9+-ft 9 ' iw., 1 v V 1 t vflw., , if 1 - , 'Zig W lj 'VU t f.-.Q tj 'ml 1

l.V.'s Expect 00 Season Our coming Pueblos' baseball season has made a big success over the past year's with Coach Warnke. The outstanding players with the highest batting average are Anthony Morelos, a sopho- more, and Raymond Grijalva, another sophomore. This year we had 37 boys who went out for the l.V. baseball team. These LV. baseball players practice three hours a day. Throughout the season we will depend on our freshmen pitch- ers and how they mature, said Coach Warnke. Verconica Blurton ludy Galvan
