Members of The All-City Orchestra were Gene Roloff, Travis Kinsley, Bob Morrow, Donna Moser, George Membrilo, Mark Field, Rosalie Hoyt ond Mike Young. Competition Qtimulates Talents. Bill McKinley, Nancy Naiarian, and Danny Galvez had many work sessions as they practiced for the contest in Las Vegas. Members of the Tucson Symphony Youth Orchestra practiced every Saturday to perfect their talents into a top rated city orchestra. 50 Wins Honors A desire to create through the medium of music was sparked by the annual All-City band and orches- tra festivals. Preparations for these contests began as students practiced solo selections for the honor band or orchestra auditions. These try-outs were held early in December. All students auditioning were required to play the music selected as the try-out material and to sight read any piece requested by the auditioner. Finally came the festival concerts. ln the All-City band concert on February l at Catalina High School, all District One high schools par- ticipated to create a varied evening of band music. The climax was the performance of the honor band of llO members. The guest conductor was .James Jorgenson, a professor from Redlands, California. The All-City orchestra festival followed a similar pattern. All-City choral festival was held on April 26 at Palo Verde High School. Its procedure followed that of the band and orchestra and after city wide compe- tition the honor chorus performed. The honor students representing Pueblo were the Desertaires. In addition to All-City placement, many Pueblo students also received other competitively won honors. Members of the Tucson Symphony Youth Orchesta in- cluded Mark Field, Donna Moser, and Eddie Soto- mayor, The assistant director of the symphony was Mike Stafford, a Pueblo graduate. All-State band members were Donna Moser, Eddie Sotomayor, and Bob Morrow. Pueblo choir students participated in the MENC Western Division All-Conference group in Las Vegas, Nevada. The students were Nancy Naiarian, Bill Mc- Kinley, and Danny Galvez. They left for Las Vegas on March T9 and spent four days in rehearsal, ending with a concert at the Las Vegas convention center.
