This award is given by the El Dorado yearbook and voted on by all faculty members honoring the year's top student. Janie has been a consistent worker in her community and climbed her way to the school's highest office-student body president. Janie's personality and perseverance in her activities give promise of a future of success and re- ward in college and later life. Similar to the Hall of Fame is the EI Dorado's second award, Athlete of the Year, voted on by the athletic de- partment of Pueblo. The most outstanding athlete of the year was BILL MCKINLEY. Copping All-City as a junior, All-State as ci senior, Bill worked his way to a place on the high school All-American football squad. Also, a varsity basketballer for two years, Bill's athletic future is a secure one with three full N.C.A.A. scholarship offers to top universities. 35

The five specifications a stu- dent must meet to ioin the Elbert D. Brooks Chapter of the Na- tional Honor Society are leader- ship, scholarship, character, ser- vice to the community and par- ticipation in extra-curricular ac- tivities. Once initiated, members must keep up their high stan- dards and help make their so- ciety a working part of the school. The 1966-67 group began their year by electing officers and by planning to support the Philippine boy adopted by the Student Council over 5 years ago. Things ran smoothly as they decided what dues to pay and when to tutor students in the library. Then things came to an abrupt halt. Ramon Yslas, president, was hospitalized and Honor So- ciety proceedings awaited his recovery. Carol Hinton took over the position to collect semester dues and establish a fund for Ramon's family. Junior members of the so- ciety were Julia Delsid, Don Lew, Carl Lo, Betsy Lo, Charles Molina and Karen Stewart.
