Homemaking Curriculum Expanded Mrs. Carole Boldt Mrs. Hazel Coatsworth fw . . f , if E5 C ,gf . ,. , Mrs. Esther Johnson Mrs. Susan Pendleton Courses offered by the homemaking department at Pueblo are varied and use- ful. They include work in food preparation, clothing, homeliving, and child day care in a nursery setting. Clothing and foods are open to both beginning and advanced students. Girls learn wardrobe fundamentals as well as how to construct a garment. ln foods, stu- dents study nutrition and learn to plan and prepare foods for meals, snacks, desserts and others. They then practice this knowl- edge by carrying through their plans in labs held weekly. Through homeliving, boys and girls learn how to handle a family budget, manage a home and care for children, in both class and lab work. At the Day Care Training Center, se- lected children are taught skills which will enable them to learn more when they enter first grade. Pre-nursing is a new course offered to Pueblo students who go by bus to Tucson High School. The first semester, basic skills such as how to give a bath and artificial respiration are taught. Second semester dc- tual hospital practice is experienced. Upon graduation, the student is a qualified nurses' aid. Norma Lopez found keeping up with the younger generation quite a challenge, and recreation periods such as this one at the Day-Care Training Center can be the real test. Day-Care training students supervise seventeen preschool age children not only on the playground and indoor activities but also during their noon meal. Students in Mrs. Pendleton's foods class found there was never a second to waste in the life of a good cook. Cindy Reynolds, Frances Basurto, Patricia Cassidy and Carolyn Williams are making sloppy ioes. This is education with a reward. If they are successful with today's lesson, they will have a hearty sandwich to eat. 205

Business Practice Trains Students for Tomorrow Business education courses offer a chance for students to gain experience in the world of business. This department stresses skills in typing, sales, marketing, bookkeeping, shorthand, and office machines. Knowledge of office procedures and skills have a two fold purpose. They serve to give a student sufficient skill to obtain a iob after graduation or hold a iob as on aid to college expenses.
