Each counselor was assigned over four hun- dred students whom they were to guide through four academic years at P.H.S. Although careers and classes dominated many of the conversations between adults and students, each counselor was available at anytime to those teenagers with personal problems. Counselors faced numerous headaches of which the most prominent was preparing seniors for the cruel world . College bound students were encouraged to take the ACT test, apply for scholarships and ad- missions, and keep grades up to par. Stu- dents preparing for work immediately after graduation were guided toward specific goals through vocational classes.
